Granite is in! Please help with paint and backsplash!

Our granite counters were put in yesterday. Thanks to everyone here who helped us make a decision on the stone. We love it- is an understatement :-)

We need help choosing the paint color..currently the yellow walls aren't working for me though HD feels they are not bad....but I feel yellow is bringing out more yellow in the cabinets....am I right? Usually he is the one with better taste in decorating :-)

Also, what kind of backsplash would work in our space? I have no clue how to bring together the granite and cabinets with the help of backsplash!

What about one of the Ben Moore off white colors? Find one that matches the cream in your granite. Although this may sound like I'm saying "white", the Off-White colors are very rich. Look at some paint strips--the ones that start with OC.

I think I will head out to the BM store this weekend to bring back sample cards for Off Whites...Thank you Beekeeperswife.
Can you help me in the direction which keeps the kitchen feeling warm....what kind of undertones should I lean towards in Off Whites?

well, green is a funny color, and if I remember, that green in your stone is an olivey brown. So I would stick with that tone of green no matter what IF you are thinking green. I didnt have a backsplash for a long time in my kitchen and painted the walls instead under the cabinets and put fun prints and my armetale I had at the time on walls. One house I had a counter that had similar colors and used a SW paint called versitile grey which was a taupey gray. If I had to choose one tile. I like the one on the right best as it seems to pick up the non black colors in the stone nicely.Has your friend thought of doing a cultured stone there? Good luck.

I am thinking of using the 1x1 squares along the bottom edge with a 1/2" matching travertine border on top and then the 4" diagonal above that. Not sure what to use on the bar though, as it is 4-1/2" so nothing fits just perfect.

Catara -if it's properly glued to the drywall, it won't be removable. Taking it out would take out the drywall too. Ask the fabricator about the drawbacks to each method. Grinding it down risks more damage to the slab, so my thought would be to remove drywall and install granite. (or install granite over drywall and add another layer of drywall to make the wall level.

I don't like the 4" backsplash for the following reasons: - if you are doing a decorative tile for the rest of the backsplash, you are now decreasing and cutting off your design area by 4". - the 4" creates a little "shelf" that gets dusty, just one more thing to clean. - added expense to install the 4" piece of granite along your countertop. - people who say you "need it" to cover a gap between the countertop and the tiled wall just don't have good installers. My kitchen walls are extremely out-of-plumb, but my tile backsplash meets my granite countertop with no gaps cause I had experienced installers. - IMHO it looks dated, since the 4" idea was popular with formica in the '70's. I would only do a 4" backsplash if I were doing no other backsplash at all and just leaving drywall on the rest of the wall. And even in that case, I'd try to make it a little higher, like 5" or 6".

Oh gosh. I have no words for you to make that decision easier! Just get EVERY strip they have with the OC colors on them. Don't make any decisions in the store. Get them home and then decide.

I went with Gray Owl in my house. I know grays can be cold feeling. This gray is not. So,that's why I say, you need to see them in your house.

Some BM stores now have large samples of the colors already painted. Not all the colors, but the popular ones. Take a look at those to see if they have any of the OC colors so you can go back later if you need to if you don't want to buy a sample can.

I know the OC colors sound boring, but you will be amazed. I know I was.

Here is a photo of the Gray Owl in my dining room. I'm not suggesting this color to you at all it probably isn't right in your space, but I wanted to just show you that it isn't "boring". Well, maybe it is, but I like the contrast with the white.

We have Acadia White in some rooms of our house. It was an interim color until we decided on a permanent one but it is definitely a warmer white. It is slightly creamy, but I always love the contrast of cream to white trim.

I don't know if it would be too dark, but a paint store I went to suggested BM Shaker Beige for my Coral Gold.

We have BM shaker beige and I think it would go well with your cabs and countertops. It is very neutral.

IMO, the gold ain't working.

Also, IMO, a cream or beige shade would be a neutral color that would let your counter top stand out. I would definitely visit the paint stores and pick up some chips (plenty of them) and take them home. FYI, in our similar situation we collected 30-40 paint chips, took them home, laid them out against the granite and counter top samples we had, and were able to immediately eliminate all but 5 or 6 of them and finally settle on a color.

Then we took the paint chip we decided on (along with a sample of the granite and cabinet finish) to the granite store that also stocks back splash tiles, and the designer there had us a back splash design laid out in less than an hour...she was GOOD!

No specific color suggestion to move towards, but I agree the current color isn't flattering your beautiful stone and cabs.

Beautiful kitchen. Another series that has rich colors is the BM AF line. We went with coastal path with marscarpone trim. Loving the contrast and keeps the warmth.
Your cabs and CT are different than ours but both of us need warm colors. When on the computer, I will post. Our kitchen has a number of windows so a bit hard to snag good pictures.
At least the paint is the easiest to change!

I have to visit BM store now....not sure how shaker beige would look with oak cabinets...wouldn't it make the space darker...I could be totally wrong here..:-)

Did you use UC lighting - if you have enough light, it will work, otherwise, could be dark - by using a lighter trim - ours looks pretty good - and I like the contrast.
Let us know your decisions.

I had the same issue on a remodel. I had a very difficult time finding something that wouldn't clash with the granite. I went with a matte granite finish but wonder if this same backsplash could be an idea for you. See photo attached. It's a subway tumbled travertine tile with a glass tile accent in the middle.
