Craftsman garage door opener 1/2 HP

My garage door opener quit working.

(1) Both lights on the sensors are not lit.

(2) When the wall mounted door opener is pressed, the door goes down a few feet and the light blinks several times.

(3) Is there a significance to the number of blinks when the unit is malfunctioning.

(4) Does anyone have a PDF version of the owners manual for a standard 1/2 HP Craftsman Garage Door opener (Square looking model)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your door sensors are either misaligned or have quit. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. If you can't get the light to come on by tweaking them a bit then they are bad. The main light will blink 10 times and the door will reverse to the open position when there is a door sensor problem.

You can get the model number off the opener. It's on the opposite end of where all those white wires go. It starts with 139. and you can use it at Sears parts to download an owners manual to PDF. You have to hunt a little bit to find it.

“Is real tight” mentioned tighter than the door that works well? If so, ck the load or weight of the doors with spring assistance for the same weight. I am questioning drag or load on the problem door. They should be the same as low weight or the cable might be stretching. Age of doors might need oiling rollers Etc. Foundation shifting might be an issue. Look close and good at both ends of track and share Pics of both ends. Next is quality of materials with today’s workmanship. Since mid 1980 I have learned all chain vs chain and cable are better. Plus, steel sprockets are better. I have originals given to me in the mid 80s, “oiled and maintained” as noticed from sounds or changes...

Take off the cover and look around the front of the motor. I'm sure you will find a white nylon gear with the teeth missing. You will need to replace that gear. The part number is 41A2817

It sounds like someone has pulled on the rope with the red handle. Pull straight down on this rope and release it and then run the opener to reconnect the two halves of the trolley. You should hear it snap together. Sometimes you have to give the door a little shove in one direction or the other. Should fix your problem.
