The Single Life

I am so judgemental!

Saw the thread about us being single because we are so boring. How about admitting to personality or character traits that help to keep us single? LetÂs try not to digress into "happily single" mode. Just like most of you, I enjoy being single and would much rather stay single than be in a bad/stagnant/make-do relationship. But I think good relationships do exist. What might we be doing to keep ourselves out of a good relationship?

Me first. I am judgemental personified. Right now I am sitting in judgement of my coworkers. We are producing year-end paychecks and apparently weÂre having the same problems they encountered last year (I was hired this year). I sit here wondering why they did not fix the problems. My attitude comes out in my tone, my eyesÂ.everything I do. I find myself wanting to say "YouÂre lousy!" to my coworkers.

IÂm like that when I date men in their 30Âs and 40Âs who still live with their relatives, or who have unfurnished apartments, or junker cars, or low-wage jobs, or no savings. I feel like saying "Is this all you wanted to accomplish in life?"

No one likes to be judged. No one likes a know-it-all either. I have both those traits. So maybe thatÂs why IÂm better off single?

I'm always attracted to the wrong type of guy. After a while we just don't have anything to talk about, nothing in common.

I also think I'm too independent for most men ... I have a good career, own and operate a small farm by myself, have a seasonal flower business, etc.

I really don't don't see anything wrong with being single, have seen too many bad relationships. AT this point in my life, I'm 45, I don't know if I could be part of a "couple".
I'm too used to doing things my way, living like I like to live.

Would definitely like to have a male "friend" to go places with and do things with ... but can't ever see myself living/sharing my space with someone.

So I do whatever I want! LOL!!! Travel, go out with friends, etc.

Cube (love that name), please don't be so hard on yourself.

I think you're being reasonable & practical, not judgemental!

As far as the job goes, I would place responsibility on management:
"Work" is *always* a place that exists to create & preserve as much money as possible.
Inefficiency costs money.
If year-end was a big ole mess last year, that was management's cue to change things.
They didn't.
Worker bees, no matter how knowledgeable or eager, can't change procedure.

And I don't think it's unreasonable to expect 30 or 40 year old guys to support themselves, pay their own rent on their own place, & have a decent work history.

I do agree with your premise:
that we narrow our fields by our own personalities, decisions, & behaviors.

I have ES growing in 2 different places: one is on the Notrh-East side of the house and another one is on the West-facing side. And they are so different that almost feels like 2 different varieties. This is how ES from West side looks like (it is smaller, leaves are somewhat paler, but blooms reliably every year): And this is my ES from the Notrh-East side. In fact , these are 3 hydrangeas planted in a row. They are much taller, with dark-green leaves and have fewer flowers between three of them than the one growing on the West side. Also, their flowers are mostly hidden in the foliage. I think I will remove my knockout too. I only have one blushing knockout and it is kinda pretty on the rare occasion it is in full bloom and healthy. In my garden that particular knockout is less healthy and more disease prone than any other rose I have including OGRs, hybrid teas, floribundas, and one David Austin rose. I know they do well for other people, just not for me. Oh, I broke down and applied the Bayer soil drench to the most infested roses. I felt guilty doing it because I am generally against pesticide use, especially drenches, but darn it I put a lot of money and sweat equity into those roses and I just can't let them die. I am going to order conserve online for future outbreaks, but I feel guilty about that too because it is harmful to bees.

Kay, how are you? I haven't been around for a while, I had to take a break and get myself together. To everyone I want to tell you that I am so sorry for your loss and sadness, it is the worst pain anyone can have BUT it does get better, I promise. My heart and soul mate died 14 months ago and I wanted to die with him, I was in so much pain and so scared of what was going to happen to me without him; life must go on. I was told that it doesn't get better but it gets different and they were right. I still weep and some days are bad but I have more good days as time goes on. Life won't seem so alien after a while, I just felt like I didn't belong here any more, not in my home, my job or this world but I did finally settle with my feet back on the ground. It's not easy but you have to push youself to live and it eventually gets easier. Please take care of yourselves, get help if you need it and work hard at being strong, we will never forget and we will always love them and happier days are ahead. God Bless all, Mav.

Sunflowers! Those flowers are, to me, an emblem of all that is good about Garden Party. When my son died in 2012, I got not only tons of virtual sunflowers from GPers but also actual sunflowers from Janet from MD.
