Granite templating help needed!

Hi guys, I'm posting this for someone else as garden web is giving her trouble signing in:

I need one seam in my granite countertop and unfortunately, when the pieces were put together, the colors were very different. It was very obvious where the seam would be. I noticed that the pieces were cut from 2 different slabs. I was shown the layout, but it was never pointed out which pieces and sides of the pieces were to be seamed. One side had to be the darkest part of one slab and the other looked to be the lightest area of the second slab. It also didn't help that the seam was in the middle of my 68" countertop. Contractor told me that all he can do is cut each piece from the same portion of each slab to ensure the best match. Is this true? I've now agreed to purchase another $1500 slab (contractor agreed to pay $500 and not charge cutting fee). How do I get a halfway decent seam match? Thanks in advance.
