Calling any Mitrani Quartz farmhouse sink owners...please help!

Dh's only "aesthetic" request for the kitchen was a farmhouse sink. We were all set to order our Shaw fireclay when we went to a dinner party over the weekend where the hostess kept bemoaning the chips in her sink. I know based on my research on this site that many people are happy with their fireclay farmhouse sinks, whatever the brand. But...I came across the posts talking about the quartz apron fronts and thought that might be a great alternative. Just wondering if anyone who purchased one and still posts would mind sharing their experiences!

I have one. I have had it installed for a little less than a year, but I have really worked it. It cleans up very nicely, so far pot marks just wipe off, but if I get any kind of set in stain, I use a little bit of Comet, and it is good as new. I usually just use a dish brush and use my pullout faucet in spray form to clean it. Keep in mind that it is a quartz composite sink, so it does not feel like fireclay, if that is important to you. For some it may be too plasticky feeling, but it just feels silky to me.

I have a garbage disposer installed on this sink, and we made certain that the disposer is also supported from the bottom, so to not put too much stress on the sink, Even though the company claims that it is GD safe, we were concerned that our heavy 1HP GD would pull on it, and over time, leave little stress cracks. DH has seen many Corian type sinks with stress cracks, so he thought that was a valid concern.

Anyway, I really love my sink. It is huge to me. Mine is the 30" single, which is 30" x 20" X 10" deep.

A few other GWers got this sink around the same time I bought mine and installed it several months before we installed ours, but I cannot recall who and don't know if they are posting here still. I bought mine from Bob's Faucets and Things. He had the best price, and he has a store on ebay as well.

I too am very disappointed, having the same issues with my Shaw; chips, hairline type cracks under(crazing) and doesnt drain properly. One section of the sink creates a little pool that keeps the water from draining, although the sink is level. We have a metal grid, but chips were developing even with that. I rarely use it now because it is too difficult to get the water and debris from under it. Bar keepers Friend is helpful. I occasionally make a little paste and let it sit a few minutes before wiping-I find the powder and liquid to be great. Also Mr. Clean Magic eraser is very helpful especially on the grey surface cracks and around drain. Love the look, but this has been frustrating. I've had it since around 2009 I got no help from the manufacturer.

I was able to see one at my local plumb supply shop. They have a showroom with many products in displays so people can get a feel for them. You also might find one at a kitchen and bath store with displays. Call your plumber to see if such a showroom exist in your area. The short apron allows for regular sized doors underneath. It is installed on a standard sink base cabinet and so is often used in a remodel / refresh in which the cabinets are not being changed. This is why I used the short apron style - I was able to use my old sink base. (Pics of my kitchen in my "my pics" idea book.) I have heard that a new laminate counter can be made to have an undermount sink. I have never seen it and haven't heard anything either positive or negative about how it works out. I do not think that an older laminate counter could be changed to handle an undermount - but I don't know for sure - maybe Joe will stop by with some advice on that. (http://www.houzz.com/pro/joseph-corlett/joseph-corlett-llc) There are some granites out now that are not much more than a laminate, so look into some other options. There are some decent quartz sold through Menards and Home Depot - LG and others. You might find that waiting a few months and saving a little extra will get you more of what you want - especially if you have a functioning kitchen. I was putting away $200-$300 away a month for my kitchen. I got my countertops on a 6mo same as cash deal and also on sale at Menard'sand with a rebate - paid for half and made payments for 6 mo without interest so was able to order and get started. I rarely do that, but knew the $ would be there. Wood is also often used with undermount sinks - probably takes some care, but another option. The only overmount farm sink that I know of is the Ikea which is fireclay.

Nini804 -- You hit the nail on the head! Even though I love some other elements, I always come back to this formal look. But, I want it to look warm too. You're right about the shades. This is a guest bathroom that will most likely be used a few times a week. I've also noticed that my bathroom designers (there are 2 who help me) have totally different taste, and they often show me only their designs. I told them the kinds of things I like, but one of them shows me all white all the time -- And the other one tells me to mix whatever I want and be unique. I need someone who can know what items I like, and then guide me to pairing them. That's been the part I cannot find. That's why I come here because I can get opinions from others who have more experience. Thanks so much for your help!

This site is really an amazing resource and it's do to the fact that it has such wonderful members who are willing to take the time to share their knowledge and experience! Thanks to your help I am ready to take the plunge and change my order. Now to break the news to my KD...hopefully the specs. are not too different from the Shaw. Nothing has been ordered yet but I feel that as the "drop dead" date approached I am second guessing everything and driving everyone crazy...
