We purchased a gooseneck faucet paired with a sidespray. (Perrin & Rowe single handle found on ebay for WAY reduced price). Our decision to go with a sidespray was based purely on aesthetics -- we couldn't find any faucets w/ integrated sprayers that we felt would look right in our kitchen. We haven't installed faucet or sidespray yet, so can't comment on functionality. However, given the regular retail price of this faucet, I'd be pretty shocked if the sidespray turned out to be useless. Then again, I've been shocked before...

Regarding your height issue, we found that some of the Rohl faucets (not P&R, though P&R is now owned by Rohl) were much more modestly sized than most, both height-wise and reach-wise. In fact, we are thinking of getting one of those for our prep sink (in the normal kitchen version, not bar version, which tend to have only 5-6" reach). The Rohls we liked all came with sidesprays, and when we handled them in the store, they were BY FAR our favorites -- they just felt incredibly solid and well-designed. Here again, I would be surprised if they weren't useful, but someone who has one would be in a better position to comment.

But now I see this HiRise sidespray you posted, and I'm wondering if it could be used entirely on its own at our prep sink, without a main faucet to accompany it? Do you happen to know? Very intriguing...

BTW, I've found in past renovations that mixing finishes works a lot better than I would have thought... just my personal experience...

Hi Viva99, thanks. I looked at P & R faucets and then kept looking. I don't think I could get DH to agree to pay that much for a faucet. He already thinks I'm crazy to want to replace what's already there. I may have to scour eBay now to see if I can score a deal too. :)

Yes, the HiRise can be used as a main spray for a prep sink area. In fact, I first learned of its existence in a BH&G slideshow on faucets. I've included the link.

I have a Graff Corsica faucet with side spray. I got it precisely because-- contrary to the current trend-- I did NOT want a pull down or pull out sprayer. Yes, the side spray absolutely works fine, is far more than an ornamental fixture, and I love it! Sorry that I can't tell you anything about the workings of the Kohler Hirise sprayer or whether it's finish would/wouldn't be compatible with that of the Graff faucet. As for looks alone though, regardless of finish, it looks great!

Prior to your post I'd been lamenting the fact that a faucet + sprayer + filtered water dispenser would overwhelm my poor little prep sink, and was trying to decide which I'd miss more: the sprayer or the dispenser. Now I'll just cut out the faucet itself! Who'd have thunk?

Good luck on your bargain-hunting. Hint: when you see that "make an offer" button on ebay, use it! You'll be surprised! Oh, and one reason we got that great deal was by being flexible on the finish. We wanted satin nickel, this one was polished nickel only, and we decided that in our 125 year-old house it might actually work better to mix finishes, rather than to keep everything super "matchy-matchy." That way things look as though they were added over time, organically...

I, too, did not want a pull down. We chose the "Grace" faucet from Blanco. The side spray works just fine.

That's an interesting sidespray...it looks like it stays on w/o having hold down a lever all the time...one of my biggest complaints about sidesprays.

You said no pull downs...does that also mean no pull outs? (I'm assuming so, but I thought I'd ask). Pull outs have a lower profile than pull downs.

As to the difference b/w stainless steel & chrome...I'm not sure. But, I do know that chrome faucets corrode fairly quickly when you have moderately hard water if you're not conscientious about wiping them down every time they get wet. Our stainless steel sinks, OTOH, do not. What I don't know is if the same stainless steel is used in sinks & faucets... Anyone???

I saw the Kohler faucet that you're considering at Ferguson's, and also the chrome Perrin&Rowe. These particular two were different enough that I would not take the sprayer from one and the faucet from the other. I really liked the Kohler sprayer -- I wish other brands had the same thing -- i.e. the sprayer is a separate faucet with its own water supply. But when I actually saw the two faucets I preferred the P&R and was able to get it online for much less than the Kohler.

Thank you everyone for your insight. Very interesting Buehl about chrome corroding. Another thing to obsess about. :) Yes, we're not interested in a pull out spray either. We love the look and functionality of the sidespray.

Sayde, I'm so glad you were able to do a side-to-side comparison of the two and could report. I need to get down to the Architect & Designers (A&D) Building tomorow and finalize options.
