Woven roman vs. 2' white blind

A few questions...

Woven roman shades are pretty popular right now and I do really like them. I also don't mind white 2" wood (or faux wood) blinds.

1. Do you think woven romans are classic? I know you should get what you like yadda ya but I'm curious what you think.

For example, my bathroom has a perfectly fine white 2" faux wood blind. I think a woven roman would look better but it seems silly to replace it especially if they're going to be out in a few years. I don't consider the things I like "trendy" but sometimes seeing certain things (like blinds) does impact what I like from time to time. Hopefully some of you can relate to what I'm saying.

2.Change it out or keep the white bling?

My MAIN reason I'm questioning this right now is because we're having company over in a few weeks and I'm cleaning out the one spare room to make a guest room. I don't have the time or money to buy curtains & rods right now as I'm using bedding I already have and this will some day be a kids room anyhow.

3. SO, would you get woven shades or 2" white blinds for the two 35"(width inside frame) windows? The windows are on two different walls. I just know I wouldn't want to sleep in a room with nothing over the windows at night.

I have a habit of buying stuff and then when I actually get to working on the room I end up replacing everything. Of course I don't trash the stuff I'm not longer using but it's still a waste of money.

Either of those two window covers like a better option? I'll admit I don't really care for cellular blinds or some of the other types.

i think either would be fine and not considered trendy. I'm kind of seeing blinds with the rest of your house - I think you seem to have a more traditional look.

So right now there is nothing on the window? What is on the rest of your windows. In my own personal opinion, I like a cohesive look such as all blinds. (or all shades)

We have the 2 inch wood blinds in every window of the house - with the exception of the sunroom. I have roman shades on all the windows out there (a creme color cotton canvas type fabric).

You can't go wrong with either one, but there are a couple things to keep in mind. Since the room will eventually be for a child you'll probably want cordless. Many woven woods don't offer complete privacy and may require a liner.

I would avoid selectblinds.com- They are a sponsor on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. We ordered a bunch of 2" Faux Wood blinds from them last fall. Good quality, great price, awful customer service. We ordered the blinds with "inside-mount" measurements but wanted "outside-mount" valances with returns on the sides-this information was given in detail on the order. The order was shipped with inside mount valances (of course). They then sent replacement valances that had returns that were too long-I ended up cutting them back myself rather than go to round three with them. The largest blind we ordered had to be remade 3 times due to shipping damage-that packing materials were insufficient. When an undamaged blind arrived, it arrived at the wrong address, one we were using as a billing-only address when we were between homes. I had to drive 45 minutes each way to Mom's to pick up that last blind.

I have roman shades in the bedroom. They are mostly decorative and a bit of a nuisance to open and close. I do close them at night, but have to fuss with the folds every morning when pulling them up. Light leaks in around the edges. I guess there are various kinds of roman shades. Mine are zero fuss and fit close to the edges and are cordless, top-down bottom-up. Even without the side panels mine are close to the edge in an inside mount. measured to fit. You may be referring to more designer custom fabric-y style roman shades???

I can't answer your question regarding what the OP did, amn4783, but it's more important to have the window treatments inside the room be compatible than thinking about the outside. If you want woven wood shades in the dining room, do them on all the windows, but use a white privacy liner. That way your interior is cohesive, but so is the outside since from the outside you see white on all the windows.

Use solar shades then you keep the view even on really sunny days . I really dislike woven wood shades to me they always look like cheap bamboo shades and always block the view. I use solar shades for Steves blinds and have never had an issue. Go with 10% and in dark color to get the best view out of them

I'd keep the white there. As for the guest room, put your $$$ there, with either woven blinds or 2" blinds (cordless as suggested). I spent the day cleaning our guest room because we're having guests tonight (I really shouldn't be on the computer, lol). We have the old vinyl miniblinds in the guest room. I put my $$$ into a good mattress, luxury linens and have never had a complaint. In fact, the room seems to be in fairly high demand :)

Both are classic and won't go or of style. I have 2" wooden blinds in our guest room from Lowes. Here are the reasons:
1. The room is in the front of the house. The blinds give it more privacy when the are open then woven.
2. Our window is 72" wide. I have 2 blinds so whoever is using the room has a choice of which side to open, if the should want fresh air and still have a decent amount of privacy and darkness.

Just my perspective on your question.

Woven woods work with traditional decor too. Shee has bamboo on her French doors. The only down side to blinds is the need to dust each slat. I have them in the dining room and also have shutters in a couple rooms. Course if you enjoy dusting then it's not an issue. ;)

Jerseygirl - Your window is one window? This may be a silly question but how did you use two blinds? Was it in inside mount? How or what did they connect to at the middle of the window?

Natal's right about the romans on my doors and I have that white blind in the bathroom. When I finally get around to finishing up the master bedroom I'm going to use a bamboo shade in there. None in the LR because I love the natural light and never want to get into a habit of not opening the blind. The lack of a blind doesn't bother me since I don't sleep there.

I don't like that bamboo shades aren't private and liners seem to be a challenge to find. I saw someone suggested using a canvas painters drop cloth to make liners and I'm going to try that for the patio doors.

It doesn't bother me if all the blinds in the house match or not from the inside/outside.

If I went with 2" blinds I'd want the white because of the dust issue. I'll have to make sure I clean that bathroom blind before company gets here. :)

I'm glad to hear you guys think the woven shades will be around for awhile. I think for now I'm going to grab something cheap for the windows and I'll end up changing it out later. - My sister loves that I do this and she normally gets first dibs. ;)
