Does anyone regret their white cabinets?
Comments (47)Speaking as a landlord and home owner. I find for the city pad, the white gloss look makes a very modern and it will tend to popular for young people which rent the apartment. I would not favour anything apart from cream for your own home. I have a house in a large village and it is not a city pad now large enough to have granite and ivory classic look. The cream is a natural colour and like magnolia which the nation loves for a natural look around the home, the kitchen in cream will ensure your home remains very attractive for your diner party guests, visitors and ultimately a sale. Of a recent Facebook request, around 10 people responded. 8 opted for cream, 1 ivory and one brilliant white and the age range was wide and understood our brief. My issue now is to convince my wife whom is anti-clutter and OCD clean focussed and is really upset if I do not buy a white one... could you spend £6,500 on a kitchen you do not like the colour?...See MoreDownsides to a 15 inch upper cabinet? Any regrets?
Comments (2)I have them over 30 inch lowers and love them. They hold do much more. Check out the Tupperware tubular mates for storage - they fit perfectly - and make the storage even more efficient. I even have a 15" saute pan in one but a caveat with that is that I have overlay doors to the inside is a true 15" deep...See Morewhite siligranit II -- any regrets?
Comments (5)Love my Silgranit Blanco Diamond Super Single! I am now spoiled for any other sink material. I just finished my third kitchen reno (moved 3 times in last 8 years), and installed my third Silgranit sink, that's how much I like it. Responding to Elphaba's comment, I never experienced cracking on any of them, and I think cracking is a really unusual occurrence, that would be either from something happening in shipping, or the contractor doing something. Those things could happen to any sink, regardless of whether they are Silgranit or not (even stainless steel can get dented). It sounds like Elphaba's solution is a very nice safeguard for any sink. I chose the anthracite color which is black, but I have seen quite a number of the other Silgranit colors. The only thing I would advise you to think about is whether you want the Silgranit "White" or the Silgranit "Biscuit". The "White" is a very white-white, while the "Biscuit" is a creamier white. You can call Blanco, and they will mail you color chips. There is nothing like seeing the colors in your kitchen (vs. pictures) to make up your mind. Don't email your request cause they're not that good answering emails; their customer service is definitely telephone-oriented. The number is 800-451-5782. What size cabinet do you have for the sink? Though you didn't ask about which sink style, I love the Blanco Super Single. It's so roomy, you can set pots down to soak, and still have room for other stuff in the sink. The offset drain means you won't be covering the drain with dishes or pans while you are using the sink. The Silgranit material washes easily, is heat-resistant to 536 degrees, and doesn't scratch or show water marks. If you decide on a Silgranit sink, I advise you to buy online from a good company like Quality Bath (where I bought mine). Don't just buy from any-old-website to get the best price. This picture is of the Silgranit White #440195 which is their Super Single that can be installed undermounted or drop-in. Blanco also has just come out with the same model sink but solely an undermount, which is the #441767. Comments (18)Now that I see a bigger picture I can say that backsplash looks just fine! There is no "should" I paint, but what do you want and what is in your budget. I would probably leave the wood. You can always paint later. I agree to bring the wood floor into the kitchen - that will work with the wood or with painted cabinets. It will seem like a lot of wood at first, but after a few weeks you will love it. On one hand, maple is a good wood to paint because it is smooth, unlike oak which has grain. But, wood moves with changes in temp and humidity and can cause hairline cracks in the paint at the joints. Some are bothered by this and others are not. This is why factory painted cabinets are made out of MDF or a combo of MDF and wood - the MDF is more stable to changes in temp. So a painted over finished wood cabinet will not have as durable a finish as a factory painted cabinet. Again, some want white so much that they don't mind the touch ups, and others do. If you have small children running around, you might want to wait till they are a little older to paint. I kept (and love) my white appliances because they brighten up a wood kitchen. Stainless works too, but in my wood kitchen, I kept walls, countertop, backsplash and appliances light to keep the room light: https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~110720042 I love the kitchen posted by Manon above - love the flooring too! I think your kitchen is getting a great refresh!...See MoreBunny
