Why is this forum so slow?

I'm grateful the Iris Forum is not as busy as some. I can't be in here 24/7 so it is nice that I can keep up with the topics being discussed and not miss things as they fly by so quickly, as happens in some forums. For example, I never catch the same thread twice in the Northwestern Gardening foum. I post when I feel my experience is relevant and helpful, or when I just want to praise a great photo or a great variety. I like that the gallery here is slow this year. Some years there are so many posts you can't see them all before they are dropped off. I, like many others, enjoy the photos but am only moved by a few to respond to them. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate everyone sharing their pictures - but some just don't thrill me enough to comment. You want me to post my ambivalence? What's the point? I'm happy you posted this - look at the diversity of the responses! So many different perspectives. I like that alot. And you certainly got some discussion going, eh? =) Mike

Wow Itoh Peonies so expensive!

Steve, Are you serious about Peonies liking slightly Alkaline soil? Well my clay soil mixed w/ compost should be perfect then! Shoot I wish I had read your reply before I fixed the baby Peony situation. I just opted for the least disturbant method and ran to Green Thumb to get some top soil. After talking to the "Expert" he recommend the soil for Camellia and Gardenia which is acidic! That was what I used to cover the roots of the baby peony. I knew I should have asked you guys and not some dude at a gardening center! Well... it rained last night and soil is nice and mixed in now. I guess time will tell how sturdy this baby girl is. Good thing I have not had the time to plant the two bigger plants. I think I will just stick with compost mixed in with the native soil. Can I add some pumice to help drainage or no? Last question Steve, if the Itoh's roots grow so compactly and I planted them in the ground then I don't have to pull them up and divide for a few years right? I CANNOT keep plants alive in pots to save my life! Everything I planted in the ground thrive everything in pots died. So I am very hesitant to keep anything potted. Plus that's a lot more work to me. And I need things easier. Thanks! Lynn

Dear dixieboy your yard looks very good, you have a good eye for landscaping. It looks like most of the palms you have showed in your pics are some type of Sabal Palm,Ive seen your Butia Capitata and the Cycads in your pics.I wish I could find somebody here that has more of the Sabal family of Palms besides Sabal Minor, thats all I can find as for as Sabals go.Mostely here you find Trachycarpus Fortunei,BuitaCapitata,Rhapidophyllum Hystrix,Sabal Minor.Dont get me wrong Im not complaining, atleast I can get these palms.Im talking about buying them locally.I get some mail oder catalogs but they want between 15 to 30 dollars of a 24oz pot, then you got to pay shipping an handeling,by the time you do that you have paid alot of money for seedlings.Besides most have a minum oder of 40 dollars or more before S&H,and then you dont really know what kind of shape the plants will arrive in.I dont know about you but I like to see what Im buying in person.Well I hope mabey in the near future I can find more diffrent types of cold hardy palms at my local nurserys.Once again I like your design and creative layout of your yard, everything looks great.

I'm back and very glad the board was kind of slow while I was gone. As it is I have 3 pages of messages to read!
I took my boys to Maryland for 5 weeks to stay at my parents' horse farm. While there I went to England for 10 days to visit family and friends. Now of course I have rolls of film to develop and scrapbook. It's going to take me months to scrapbook just the month of July!
I hope everyone's summer has been good. My boys start school in 3 days and all of them are in for full day. So much "free" time for me I just don't know how I'll spend my days....HMMMMM. NOT!

I haven't been posting because I haven't been scrapping! The weather here is so beautiful in the summer when its warm that my scrappin' stuff was sitting on my dining room table collecting dust. I will dig it out in September when it starts to cool down. Until then, I'll just read about the stuff you ladies are up to!
