Craftsman 1/2 HP Garage Door Openers

Hello!

The problem that I am having is that my GDO will not open using ANY hand-held remote. Not my old one...not the new one that I bought and returned as defective, nor the newest one I just brought home after returning the 'defective' one.

In the interim of trying to make them work, I cleared out the memory to the keyless entry and the buttons that opened the garage door in my vehicle. These two (in the vehicle and the keyless) both reprogrammed with no problem.

I've tried just replacing the battery in the old one, and I've already gone through 2 new remotes (blue buttons) that will not work.

I'm only trying to program one hand-held remote. It wouldn't learn the code even with the vehicle and the keyless not programmed yet.

Any help?

Does your openeer work from wall control?
is there a green light on the wall control that is blinking?
It sounds like someone inadvertently set your opener in "vacation" or "lock" mode, When in this mode the opener will only work from the wall control and does not operate from the remotes.

can you please post the model number?

Yes. Every aspect of the opener works except for the ability to use the handheld remotes. The wall control works fine. There is no blinking light on it. The keyless entry works fine as well. No problems There. Nor does the programmable button in my SUV have issues being programmed. It too works perfectly. It perplexes me why the hand helds, (even the new ones I purchased to replace the one I assumed was defective) don't work. The model number of my GDO is 41A4315-7D. It was manufactured in 10/03.

Cut your losses and chunk the Craftsman garage door opener. Get a Genie and you will never post a question about openers on this forum again. A little research on this forum will show you hundreds of posts about those badly engineered and cheaply produced monsters. There are probably more questions about them than anything else on this forum. I recommend the Genie "Excelerator". Opens twice as fast, quiet, has two lights, and extremely reliable. If it is stuck in the open position you will most likely find the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. You will need to loosen the chain enough to release the tension and then run the opener until the door closes. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

'96 Craftsman 139 53648SRT model 1) problems closing....go down a lil a come back up. RPM sensor I suspect ??? 2) LED flashing 5 times.....RPM sensor ? 3) while researching above problems...now when the remote or wall unit (no pad) is engaged, there is nothing but a slight/quick "humming" noise..and nothing happens. This is a new symptom. 4) I have checked/tired to align the infra red sensors.... this model has both lights on constant, regardless of whether they are in sync or not. I checked the wiring from teh sensors back to the motor/unit. I'm not sure how to align them now. QUESTIONS: which do I address first ? I'm not sure I can align the infra red sensors without the "humming" and no activity when I engage the opener. Should I look at the RPM sensor first ? Is the gear stripped ??? causing the humming and non activity ? The opener was opening before I started working on it. Thanks to anyone and everyone who has advice on this.
