Ok.. Just try running the garage door by pushing the button and see if it catches the latch just fine. It will probably be just fine.... What your friend was trying to tell you to do is to grab the garage door and manually open or close it to catch the latch back onto the chain. You don't want to pull on the red cord when you are doing this - just grab the bottom of the door and either open it or close it to catch the latch. You REALLY don't want to do this with all your strength - or you might break something in the garage door latch.. It's usually harder to open and close the door - so it takes some strength to open it up without the help of the motor... but you want to go slowly when it's hooking the latch back up or you might break that part. Here's what is going on.... The Red pull handle thingey has a spring loaded latch inside it... kinda like how a door knob works. That latch grabs onto the hole on a plate connected to the door opener chain - and the garage door goes up and down when the motor runs. (It holds together like how a door latch holds a door closed) When you pull the string - you just pull the latch out of the hole in the metal plate connected to the chain.. like how turning a door knob lets you open a door.... and you can manually pull the garage door go up and down without the motor moving the chain. Does this make sense...

I just replaced the carraige on an older genie garage door opener with the three piece rail. It was a simple fix, off with the old, on with the new and I lubed the carriage and screwdrive with the recommended grease! My problem is the vibration as the carriage tracks!! I checked the joints where the rail joins together and they are tight! The design of the 3 piece rail does not lend itself to a vibration free operation! There appears to be sway from side to side with no bracing between header and motor. Question: Are there any brackets out there that can fix this problem, after market, hand made, etc.. DIYGrandpa

my 1/2HP garage door stopped working. I hear several clicks and it goes off. It seems it tripped. If I touch the back of the unit it turns on and then 1 sec later clic clic and goes off. If i try to operate the door it opens 2 inches and stops. ANy clue?

Hi everyone, I know i sound like a tape recorder but my craftsman 1/2 hp has been working fine for 3 yrs. Not sure what happened to the remotes, but they stopped working. I first tried replacing the batteries but after that didnt work i went out and brought two brand new up to date chamberlain klik3u universal garage remotes. Retail 40 bucks per. They say in the manual they are compatible to my garage opener which was manufactured in 1997. They wont program as well. My garage opens and closes fine. I guess im here to find out if anyone has any other trouble shooting facts to program because the "press the red button like a door bell, hit the button you want programmed" basics isnt working for me. I called chamberlain about the remotes and they basically told me go jump in a lake, all our remotes program fast and easy!!! I need help ppl. Plzzzzz
