Justgotabme - Ha ha! Sadly I wasn't much better before I had kids. At least not about getting organized and staying that way. But I did have more energy to just stay up an extra half hour and tidy up so it didn't get quite so crazy. The good news is that after I wrote my pity-party posting last night I did get up and pick up the scattered mail, any trash on the floor, DD's books and got the toys back to her zone. Some of the stuff is gone off the couch too, mostly just the trash stuff though. Looking at what I just wrote about not being able to get organized and stay that way... I'm not sure that's true. I don't think I have EVER been organized. I have gotten my house neat and clean, but I think I can't keep it that way precisely because it is not organized. On the other hand, I think my kitchen is fairly organized and everything there that belongs there has a home... but it doesn't stay neat because other things like to camp out on the kitchen counter and table. I don't think most of my house is unorganized because I have too much unloved stuff (though that's certainly true of the garage), we do haul stuff to Goodwill several times a year and there's an ongoing goodwill pile in the garage. But I'm sure if I started digging through my closets I could find more to haul away.

It looks like you have a bermuda lawn. Do not use Roundup, it will kill your lawn. You can spray the entire with a broad leaf week killer. You can get one that attaches to your hose. You may need to spray it a couple of times. That will take care of the weeds that are not grassy weeds. For the grassy weeds it is best to prevent them with pre emergents. They are granular and are applied like fertilizer. If you are in N. TX then you will need to apply that on March 1, June 1 and Sept. 1. If you live in other parts of TX then check with your County extension agency for the proper dates. Keep your grass cut short, 1-1,1/2" . Taller grass will not be as thick. Mow low and mow often. This will help to thicken the grass. Fertilize once the grass start growing well, lightly every 4-6 weeks if you are trying to improve your lawn. Good luck!

This is a close-up of the border fabric I started working with. I tried not to get too matchy-matchy with the other fabrics, which is a tendency I fight all the time. At the same time, I didn't want the quilt to lose its more subtle, darker look either. I don't have the correct words to describe the different facets of color, but I know them when I see them. (I think it may be called saturation.)

Find independent nurseries in your area and see what they have to offer. A couple of larger nurseries in my area offer design services for very reasonable costs. They also do as much of the installation as you're willing to pay for. Both nurseries then offer a discount on any plants you purchase off the plan they created. Smaller nurseries work with landscapers regularly and may be able to give you referrals. NextDoor is another good resource for referrals. IMO landscape architects are overkill for most home gardens unless you have a grand property with an even grander budget. Landscape designers from big and small companies can help you plan and execute a beautiful garden. Good luck!
