Doing a scrapbook for $$ ?

An acquaintance saw one of my scrapbooks, and has asked me to make one for her adult daughter, and wants to know how much I will charge. (It really doesn't matter to her; she just wants it done.) I don't have a clue. Does anyone else do this for others? I have the time, and wouldn't mind doing it at all, but these things are quite costly, and I don't want to lose money, while not overcharging her at the same time. I would furnish the book for whatever I pay for it, but need to know how much per page, I guess.....

Any suggestions? HELP please.

Dear Prissy,
I would do a sample page and then stop and figure out how much it costs to do the sample page and then X it by the number of pages she wants done. (Agree on a specfic number of pages BEFORE agreeing on a price, that way new photos she brings in will not put you out more dollars, and you know we all find extra photos once we start looking.) I would then add what ever you value your time by at. If you are a fast scrapper then you could probaly charge less, if you on the other hand are a very slow but artistic with lots of paper piecings, punches, etc, then I would have to raise my salary a little or charge by the hour. Remember to add the cost of the album, as a matter of fact it might be best if she bought the album that way it would be EXACTY the one she wanted. Remember to include the costs for stickers, die cuts, card stock, page protectors, etc. It might be best to make up 3 sample pages one that is simple and on the plain side, one page with die cuts and some pattern paper and a few embelishments and then a third page that is loaded with goodies and time and money consuming style. That way you could say example one cost x amount, example 2 cost X amount and example # costs x amount, and she could either choose one example of how she wants her book or she could choose 4 page of example 2, 3 of 1, etc. and then you could more accurately price her album and both of you would not be disappointed Penny

if she is a good friend could you give her an estimate and then see if she minds you figuring out how much exactly once you have finished it?? ie charge her for the materials you use and then charge a certain amount for your time.

I'm not a scrapbooker any longer, but am starting to work with paper to make cards ... so I've been spending a lot of time in our three main craft stores, Michael's, JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby. They all have good-sized scrapbooking sections, have you checked there? Also, does your area have any small scrapbooking stores? Back when I did scrapbook, I could find more specialty items there. Another option, of course, is to find a Creative Memories consultant. But my all-time favorite, is eBay. You can find tons of things there.

I started back in 97 when my dd was born- today she turns 9! I did her baby book and it was ok. Then I discovered Creative Memories and all the stuff out there. I redid her pages- thanks to double prints- and it is much nicer. I used to use a 3-ring binder and page protectors from office supply store. I used solid paper as my page. I used some stickers and a little journalling. I have since taken all those pages and put them into CM albums. Now I use the regular white pages and use the colored paper for frames or accent strips. To organize and make things go faster I use an easy method. I have a binder with sleeves in it. When I develop film I separate in dated or event order. Then I divide by what pics would fit on a page. I drop those pics into sleeves. Then I take paper that matches the pics and drop it in the sleeve. I may put some stickers in there too. Then when I go to scrap, I just grab a sleeve and work that page. I have already picked out the stuff for the page, just need to assemble. Unfortunatly, I have a digital camera now. It was so easy to develop film and then sort out the pics. Now I have to download onto a CD, take to a place or use an online service. I have not done this yet, which explains why I have over 600 pics to print, and at least half I need doubles of- one for my dd and one for my ds albums. One nice thing about digital is that I can print only what I need, so I may print all my dd birthday pics for her album, but only print a few for my son to have in his. Hey soggy6- aren't you the one with the pool that had plaster then switched to ptec after a crack or something? Are you going to, or do you know about, the event at Newburg Hall down by Sac State on 4/29? My CM gal and her friends are having an all-day event. After spending last year doing the build, it will be nice to spend a day scrapping. I am taking all our vacation pics- the ones before we had kids- and getting them all into albums. Won't be super fancy like my kids books. The goal is to have them in an album instead of not.

Jackie, First read ALL the posts of this forum. There are tons of ideas here on what to buy, and where to buy it the cheapest, and a lot of scrapbook terms and tips . I am inculding my favorite link that has TONS of sites for you to view. My second suggestion is to take a class if one is available in your area. At most classes you can use the instructors punches, scissors, etc, there by finding out first hand which ones you prefer, without having to buy them yourself. Keep posting and asking questions about what you need to know, someone here will try to figure out how to help you in what ever your problem or questions is.
