Maybe try to break down the adhesive. Goo gone or my new fav . .wd-40. Do an inconspicuos place first to see how it may or may not react with the paint. Start with a little, try to avoid drips and runs. Then you want to clean it up afterward. Maybe someone could offer more expert advice (I am not, but that is where I would start. HTH!

Its a classic Bic Stik pen as apposed to the Bic Clic pen that is retactable and does not have a cap. The caps have a long 'thing' on them so you can hook the pen onto a folder or somehing so it is handy. The 'thing' is flat but curved in one direction on one side and thick, so it does not bend. You hold the cap. It is a great tool for removing labels from items and not ruining your nails. You might also use one of those wallet sized ice scrapers. They are a little thicker and don't bend which may be a plus or a minus for using it on the trim. A CC can bend slightly for curves on trim. Or get one of these 3" little ones with a handle which are easier on the wrist. Good luck finding these as give-a-ways in your area though.

Thanks for confirming that it is in fact safe. Alex and bbstx- I will also try using the hair dryer trick. I hadn't even thought of that. Edlakin- whichever method I resort to using I will definitely make sure I heed your advise about pulling the tape straight out as I work at removing it. Raehelen- Thanks for not making me feel so bad. Hopefully I can get this off in time without it petrifying.

Thanks, all! I put some vegetable oil on a paper towel and placed it over the masking tape for a few hours. Came back and could easily wipe the top layer of the tape off. Put the same towel back over for a few more hours, and the final residue wiped right off. No scrubbing, no staining. Thank you!
