Beginner's dumb question

my kids are grown, but my photo books are dissolving so i am putting together a book for each child...hopefully to present at college graduation. i have not seen other's scrapbooks, but i have done some research. your messages have been very helpful in leading me to helpful web sites!! thank you. i must admit that i have stage fright! some layouts are planned, but to actually start glueing them down??

the dumb question: the photo albums come with white card stock in them. Can that be used for the background of the page??? with titles, mounted photos, etc glued right on it? the layouts that i have looked out seem to all have colored backgrounds. do you remove the white? do you add pages on top of it??

thank you for any help you can give this nervous beginner!

It all depends on what type of album you get. Some do come with the white paper background, then you can use different colors when you crop and mount your photos. Other types of albums are 3 ring and you buy protective sleeves to slip over your page (whatever color or design). And no it's not a dumb question; glad scrapbooking has hooked you too!! :o)

I have 12"x12" books that have protective pages with white inserts. I makes my pages by combining colored paper or colored paper with design paper...depending on the theme and photos...and glue my photos, die-cuts, stickers, etc. onto the colored/design paper. I slip the completed pages into the protective cover on-top of the white page. Not even sure why I decided to do it this way?? Probably because my first scrapbooking began when I decided to make starter books for the grandparents and so when I make new pages, I can send them and they can insert the new pages into their repsective books. Remember, so many great and famous people have said, "NO question is a dumb question!"

Gee, IMO, uncoupling the hoses and then dragging them around would be even MORE work! I'd rather just put a little more oomph into pulling them all together. But then again, I guess I cheat a bit. I pull the hoses out, drag them where I need them, and just leave them wherever I finish. Why put it back if I only have to drag it out again? Sometimes it does get pulled back and coiled by whoever is mowing the lawn, but then I just pull it out again and leave it. I do have to pull it from one area to the other, but all my gardening areas are far from the house, so I never drag the hose back to the house area; I just leave it near the last bed I was watering. I just make sure to check that no connections are laying in the driveway. DH once drove over a connnection and ruined two hoses in one instant. Dee

A really dumb, dumb, dumb Nepeta quesiton

Nepeta is one of the most carefree long blooming plants there is. I think it's worth a try. I have two cats, and used to have another. None of them took any interest in my nepeta at all, even when I stuck it under their noses. We have ferrel cats in our neighborhood too and I have never seen one around my nepeta. If you do happen to have a cat in the neighborhood that wants to eat it or lay in it, at least it probably won't want to poop there too. Nepeta is easy to propagate. If you carefully pull a stem away from the base, it will already have itty bitty roots attached to it and can grow into a good size plant in one season. Just stick the new starts in a shady place for awhile until they get established. It should be very easy to get nepeta in a plant trade or make your own starts if you purchase a plant. Then if you do happen to have new cats hanging around, you won't have spent much and can rip it all out. I don't think you'll need to. In fact there may be some places in your garden where you can use nepeta as a ground cover instead of loose mulch where I suspect you're finding kitty poo. Cats like to scratch in loose soil, sand, or mulch. They're not likely to poop on top of a plant.

Put it ALL in. What came out of the eavestrough is as you think it is, decomposed leaves. Its a great addition to your compost pile. Peanut Butter. If you think peanut butter is not what should be put into a compost pile of rotting garbage, then throw it away. Better still though, give it to your neighbors who will throw it into their compost pile. Don't be led down the garden path by scary stories of putting stuff in a compost pile that will harm it. Meat, if its buried deep, fish carcases, if its buried deep, milk solids, if its buried deep will decompose down as much as anything else. It just depends on how much goes in there and if you bury it under a lot of grass clippings, other food waste, leaves and soil, you've done well by your pile. All this food, don't let it go to waste. It all has microbes -- and I haven't met a dangerous microbe yet I wouldn't let eat in my compost pile.

Hi Joe- They only bloom once per stem. You can keep the spent flower around - it might make plantlets. If you don't need/want any more red gingers, just cut the stalk after it blooms. -Gwenn

its not a dumb question the only dumb questions are the unasked ones. i have used the white pages as the background mounting my photos on colored pages or slipped completed pages on the white either way is fine i think and it depends a lot on the pictures that you are scrapping.
