Father's Day Idea

One of the ladies in my Florida Moms group posted this idea as a Father's Day gift. Of course I immediately am thinking of using it as a scapbooking layout. Hilary :)

** Father's Day Card/Poster **

Need:

3 Different Colors of cardstock (or construction paper)

Pens or crayons

scissors

With one piece of cardstock, trace around Dad's right hand. Cut out around hand. Repeat with child's hand on another piece of cardstock. On the top of the third page, PRINT : Upon this page two hands you'll see, One's my Dad's, the other one is ME!

Then glue on the Dad's hand, then the child's hand on top of the Dad's. Sign and Date the bottom. This is a great thing to keep doing each Father's Day, and watching your child's hand grow! You can make this into a card, or into

a poster and frame it.

If desired, the following poem may be written on the back:

My Dad's hands are strong

And they're big and their tough

But when I need help

They're gentle enough.

My Dad's hands can teach me

To work and to give

And by their example

I'll learn how to live.

Right now my hand's small

And learning good from bad

Some day I hope my hands

Will be just like my Dad's!

Oooh - I like this idea!! But I think I'll do it with me and my daughter in her scrapbook (the 2 girls of the family! :)

What a sweet gift for a dad. But how would you do that secretly? :)

Love your picture of Poppy. My grandfather on my dad's side was locally know as Grandpa Billy Goat because he would huff & puff a lot but we all knew it was all for show. Underneath he was a big ball of mush. And the quote is one of those universal truths. I think we can all relate to how our parents miraculously became smarter as we got older.

eld6161, our hammock is always on grass, only one small, 12' square deck, at the head of the dock, so it's both a place to sit and a pass through to the dock and boat hoists, the hammock and stand would not fit. Did I mention the stands are large, cuz they are. We're also a mile or so from anything paved, so even if the kids dragged it to the driveway, it's dirt too. And when I say ours is rusted, there is a little discoloration where the two "L" shaped pieces meet (under the hammock). I mentioned it because, honestly, my standards of cleanliness and pristineness (that's probably not an actual word) are vastly different from most on GW, as in mine are way more lax, and I wanted to give the full picture.

Hilary: Thanks for the great idea! I plan to use it, poem and all. To whom do I give credit for the poem? Did you compose it? I'd like to put a name to the poem.

p.s. My 4 year old is really into "measuring." He always wants to measure his height, feet, hands, etc. against ours. Last evening he wanted to compare his hand-size to his dad's hand. Needless to say, I took the opportunity to record it on paper. My husband even suggested I place a cut-out of our son's hand in his and make it into a scapbook page! Now when he sees it, he's going to want to take credit for your idea! HA! Thanks again for all the great ideas!!!! karen

I wish I could take credit but I don't actually know who wrote the poem. It was just so perfect - I'll be using it on my layout.
