Kate, I believe you are correct, unless something drastic has been changed. Individual computers can only read the fonts they come with or that you have purposely installed on them. If you are reading a message with fonts that aren't on your computer, it will default to Times New Roman. But there are a handful, such as the ones Kate just showed, that most computers do have. Comic Sans MS is another one that is usually safe to use. But I know from building webpages that if you want to use an unusual font for your text, you need to put it in a .jpg or the like, or it won't work. I'm not sure if Papyrus is on most computers, but I do know the other two usually are, so most people will be able to see what you mean, at least for the first ones. And if any of them look exactly the same as the basic font (Times New Roman) it just means you don't have that particular one installed on your computer. Me, I have over 700 fonts installed on mine, and over 3,000 in storage that I pick from for certain graphics, etc. I'm a confessed font-aholic. Marcia

Here are the font sites I visit the most. None of them have the endless windows you click thru only to end up on another site. They don't have lots of annoying pop-up window either. They are fairly easy to navigate because the fonts are in categories. I don't know where to find the things you are looking for. I have always downloaded 3 or 4 files at a time or If it is too much the computer just puts the next files on hold until a file is finished. Normally they are files that only take a minute or two. Sometimes by the time I get to another site they are finished before I start another download. I am using Avast. I do not have a downloader software. I am just using Firefox. I rebooted many times trying to get rid of these. I shut the computer down each night also. No problems with asking questions, this is how a doctor figures out whats wrong. The first file from Saturday I had gotten rid of. The Monday is still trying to redown load. It finished and did not clear out of the list. The next two from Tuesday different files are still trying to redown load. They did finish Tuesday.

Just another comment on computer use and glasses. If you wear bifocals or progressives, it's important to buy computer glasses. If you don't, and use your regular progressives to work at the computer, you will be holding your neck at an unnatural angle, and there is research that shows that can cause permanent damage to the neck over time. For the progressive wearer, computer glasses would be designed so that the bottom of the glasses are for close work, and the upper part is formulated for computer screen distance. The brand Compuvue makes lenses that are just amazing--NO side distortion (like you get with regular progressives). Luckily, my dd is an optician and keeps me both informed and supplied with the best eyecare solutions. It's really important, though, that if you do a lot of computer work, that you discuss your corrections with your opthalmologist or qualified optician (not all opticians are licensed, in all states) and get the proper correction for your needs. One pair of glasses may not be enough to handle all your activities properly. And considering the cost of medical treatment, to me it IS a money-saving tip to have the best eye correction possible.
