A short rant

My daughter has been working on her wedding for the last 8 months....since that time, I've purchased a wedding dress for her, set up the hall for the reception and banked money for more "what-ifs" ....last weekend, the grooms family wants a meeting. Now the latest scenario is everybody goes to Vegas and splits the cost between the folks....I could care less about Vegas, I work too hard for my money to gamble..hell, I don't even play the lottery....KC wants to get married in Colorado since she was born there, so I sent her some links. I guess this was the wrong week to quit smoking, cause it isn't working.

on a good note, I did find a nice monitor cleaning program will doing a search for cleaning up my life.

What does your DD want? I am with you Michael, Vegas does not interest me one bit. Been there, done that, and do not gamble or buy lottery tickets myself. Of course, if your DD wants to go, how could you not be there to support her.

You're welcome :) I saw someone else post a similar chart and did a quick search for that one. A few weeks ago, I didn't even know that kind of chart existed! I've heard people say the quality of Reliance really depends on the year. I just ordered a McKay peach tree. It is from a seedling from Waterloo, WI, about an hour north of Madison. Apparently, it blooms and fruits every year on top of a windy hill in WI. It's worth a try, at least it'll have pretty flowers in the spring. I loved the wraps, I had a Moby one. My boys are much too big now to appreciate being in them now, but I've still kept it. I have some blueberries in my yard as well, one Patriot and two Friendship. I just put them in last year, so no fruit yet. I was super-excited yesterday, though, I got my Jungs order in the mail! I'll be planting currants, a blackberry, and raspberries today. I'm a bit worried about the frost tonight, they're saying 29 degrees here for a low. My apple tree is just about ready to blossom. My backyard is south-facing though, and generally stays warm (we're in town, there are the neighbor's wooden fences and our arborvitae hedge). Also, the one apple tree with blossoms shouldn't produce much fruit this year, it still needs to grow. I did let it ripen one apple last summer, and it was the most amazing Honeycrisp I've ever had :)

I hear you because I am paying attention. How frightening your recent experiences must have been! As I have already shared with some of you via phone, we were heading towards Mt Rushmore when our rental car (with only 6000 miles) broke down on I-90. The very condensed version--after 3 hours on the side of the road and many conversations with the car rental agency, who was 8 hours away, we were towed to the dealership. I called the rental agency and asked the person I had been dealing with--what do you want me to do with the keys? She said very sarcastically "why don't you just walk into the showroom and had them to someone?". I yelled at her "for the 3rd time, the dealership is closed and there is no one to give the keys to!" She yelled back that she wasn't going to help me if I didn't calm down. I told her that I was the one who was on the side of the road for 3 dangerous and hot hours plus one hour in a tow truck. I told her never mind, I will make the decision on what to do with the keys since she was more interested in scolding me than dealing with the security of the car. I threw the keys in the adjoining corn field. Thank you for letting me vent.

I had 2 in Japan, where they don't knock you out, and since I have loads of diverticuli, it was like an hour of torture each time. Back here in the States, thanks to conscious sedation, I didn't know a thing. One minute I was joking to the doctor that I would see if I could resist the drug putting me to sleep, and the next (It seemed), I was waking up. The second time, they gave me the sedation earlier without telling me what it was, and I woke up before they even wheeled me into the procedure room. It was wonderful. In any event, I can't see the necessity for flowers. But do get the test done, if you can. So long as you have conscious sedation, there is no difference between a gastric endoscopy and a colonoscopy, so far as the patient's discomfort is concerned, and they tell me that people with normal intestines don't have as much "discomfort" (THEIR choice of words--you know what mine is!) as I did, anyway.

I have a tall/skinny friend with a 36-inch inseam (I swear her legs start just under her chin ;-) so she just wears dresses/jumpers/split skirts she makes herself, and a couple pair of ill-fitting men's jeans. My mother-in-law had scoliosis and one hip was drawn up much higher than the other, therefore she had to alter every pair of slacks/pants/jeans she ever purchased or made, and alter them in several areas of the garment because one leg was longer than the other and the length of her hips were different. There wasn't anything in ready-wear that fit. Meanwhile, HER mother-in-law had a poorly-set broken leg as a child and one leg was 3-inches shorter than the other and she had to have a specially made shoe to compensate for the difference and still walked with a hobble. She would wear boys bib overalls (she was very tiny) because that was the only thing that would fit her comfortably for working on her farm because they hang from the shoulder, not the waist, and it was difficult to make a dress look "correct" on her (more geometry than tailoring). I have a body "designed by a committee" - long narrow waist, short legs, and an hour-glass figure, so if I find things that fit my hips, the waist has to be taken in (I love things with a draw string or elastic!!!). Glad I learned how to tailor clothing in high school because I've been doing it all my life. When I took my Master Knitting Class, the instructor had to alter her husbands sweaters 9-inches from one shoulder to the other in order to make the sweaters hang straight at the waist because one shoulder dropped by that much due to childhood polio. So not to be snarky, because I've spent a lifetime working over ready-made clothing trying to make them fit properly, but THEY (my tall skinny friend, mother-in-law, grandmother-in-law and knitting instructor had something to complain about.... I'm just slightly inconvenienced, by comparison (LOL). If you are of a mind, you can get computerized patterns designed for your body and have clothes made to fit you perfectly. This is especially helpful for people with severe/unusual conditions. -Grainlady

Oh, Honey - you have sure been through it with KC - darned it! Can you return the dress and get your deposit back on the reception hall? Did Dee have a hand in this fiasco? Like Eloise says, how can you NOT support KC, but is this really what KC wants? Whose idea was this? You poor baby - I am as exasperated as you are right now!

KC wants to get married in Colorado, where she was born... she isn't interested in Vegas either...she calls it Sin City..heh......Sent her options to a Gazebo in the middle of a lake in Green Mountain Falls, or Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs....She really likes Garden of the Gods...now she just has to inform the in-laws to be, I guess. I think she can still use her dress in the ceremony. It's non-returnable, custom tailored....I'm holding off on trying to get the deposit on the hall back, as plans have changed almost as often as our crazy weather here.

Michael, I thought you had already tried this drug, and decided you liked Rum better - hhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm, never tried either one, but whatever kills the pain, I guess - none of it does you any good - only harms ya.

Just a stab a humor, Jo....I do the hard stuff once in a blue moon....I prefer a cold beer as my beverage of choice. If my kid doesn't get off the fence soon, I may try that though.

For many yrs have been a lurker on the single forum and have enjoyed ur rants and was sad that you took a involuntarily absence of leave awhile back!!
For the record I'm a guy (married twice) and when it comes to weddings, the groom should (better) realize the wedding is ALL about the BRIDE!!! Bride is happy, the groom is happy, simple as that!!

What kind of wedding is it anyway if the bride isn't the one calling the shots????? Unless the groom's family is paying fro everything, they are only supposed to shut up and show up!!

Hang in there Michael - see if you can have a talk with your daughter to try to convince her to speak with her future in-laws, or at least with the groom. It is too early in the game for his family to be calling all the shots. OMG, what happens if they have a disagreement or something - will his family decide the outcome?? Come on - this is not good. Hopefully your daughter will be able to speak up and have her wedding and not attend theirs (the one they planned for her).
