Rejuvenation Hardware is often recommended.. they are very Title 24 aware and can make any of their fixtures with GU24 lampholders for T24 compliance. Unfortunately, the 85W screw-in CFLs don't seem to be readily available in GU24 yet. If you can find those, they're perfect for your needs - 85W of CFL is about 400W of incandescent. Keep in mind that the 'watts equivalent' published by CFL manufacturers tends to be a bit 'optimistic' when you look at actual lumens. Do you have the option of adding a couple more fixtures, or possibly using multi-bulb pendants? (Or you could use the rather-popular 'change the fixtures after the inspector leaves' method..) We've been in our new house a week, and our Noritz tankless (gas) with recirculating pump is awesome. With enough flow through the fixtures (we have one faucet that doesn't have enough volume-grr) we get hot water on the other side of the house from the tankless in 2-3 seconds. Sometimes right away. As to LED lighting, it irked me no end how much more expensive LED lights are vs. incandescent. In the interests of mental health, I eventually surrendered and got mostly Title 24 compliant stuff. The kitchen pendants aren't compliant, nor are four chandeliers, but our inspector barely looked at them. Thankfully. A nitpicky inspector could have made things tough.

It is a very fine line, and it sounds like you're walking it exactly right. I too helped my son until about sixth grade, and then he was on his own 100% (6th-11th grade so far). It takes time to build up to it, and you're right, it's because it's far more sophisticated than it was in the past. My son started out with only the idea and a faint idea of where to go. It started out I'd talk to him, playing devil's advocate for realizing where experiment pitfalls might be, or was it too simplistic. I had him dictate what got typed up for the board, and I cut it out. We glued it together. The next year, I still had the conversation, but he had to type it up and we cut/glued together. The next year, it was all him. Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade. He's a junior now and he can do entire presentations and experiments with robotics on his own. But they need help getting there. My son came up with a project I thought would be a total bust, and I learned something! He wanted to see how quickly you cool down flowers would help preserve them. Cryo-chrysanthemum was his title. Looked like icicles dripping down. Good luck on titles! I wish I was as creative as my kid, but alas, I am not.
