Never heard of this day--but actually everyday should be wife appreciation day!

Theresa, I don't see yours as a mish-mash of color! I think the effect it gives is soft and soothing. I have trouble putting color together, but you did an excellent job of it! For some reason, I feel a little control is needed for the scrap quilts I make. And, it could be all in my head. :-) I've been thinking about using a yellow center square with green outside squares, flowery fabric with a brown path to look like a flower garden....but, will see if this will transpire or not. lol

I actually celebrated National Quilting Day a few days early with my Mom. The Southport Quilters Guild held their Annual Quilt Show at the Kenosha Public Museum (on the shore of Lake Michigan.) I knew it would be crowded on Sat., the 17, and it would be very hard for my 89-yr-old Mom to get around with all those people there, listening to speakers and such. So we went last Tuesday, the 13th, in the early afternoon, and she was able to use one of the museum's wheelchairs to get around. Very few people were in the quilt display area, so we had a wonderful time gazing at all the beautiful quiltwork. "Stars" was the theme of the show. I was inspired by the high quality hand and machine piecing and quilting. My Mom was intensely interested in the small "challenge" quilts displayed on one wall. The challenge was to design a small wall hanging (less than 24" x 24") using a color pallet of three shades/tints of a color plus only one other color. My Mom, being an artist herself, was intrigued with the creative landscapes/seascapes and tiny intricate designs of the quilters. After seeing the show, I decided to add something else to my "To Do" list...learn to make Prairie Points! Julie

Heh! Carolyn, differences sure can be peculiar. But please don't be disillusioned with me -- we can still be boon reading companions. :-) Veronica, I agree that Sudoku puzzles are not really math; they are logic problems -- the nine numbers could be replaced easily with nine different letters and the solving aspect would be the same. Kath, I've always liked reading maps...give me an atlas and I'll be content for hours. My father, who always did most of the driving on our family trips, had one rule he strictly enforced: at least one person besides him had to stay awake to 'ride shotgun', talking to and reading the map for him (it kept him from nodding off). My mother could talk but she was a lousy map-reader; one brother could read a map but would forget to talk; other brother could do neither very well; and then I, the youngest, could do both. I was always proud of that and the fact that daddy trusted me most. The only problem that developed for me was I cannot sleep as a passenger in a moving vehicle; I'm apprehensive that as soon as I fall asleep something bad will happen. Daddy complimented me by saying I was part 'homing pigeon'. His training put me in good stead, because I've driven on five continents with usually no more directions than the notion that such-and-such place is north/south or east/west of wherever I am at the moment. I'm a pretty good navigator at sea, as well. Kath, the spatial thing that gives you problems is something that perplexes me at times. Although I'm reasonably good at visualizing such things as, for example, the internal structures of crystals and can draw them (my geophysicist husband cannot), when it comes to most forms -- especially life forms -- I can't make them look realistic. My drafting ability is fine (e.g., I love to draw floor plans and elevations), but my artistic ability is practically nil. Aren't we all curious conglomerations of abilities?!
