OK I love all the plants I am glad I dont have to be a judge over them but I have a question...I have 2 old men cactus and I bought a old woman this week shes bigger and harrier so if I put them all together whats gonna happen :) Also I bought a obesa (this store was going out of business) so I kinda went cacti happy. it just was tagged baseball cactus, now I didn't know about them changing sex, man what kind of cactus store as he selling LOL I truly need to read up on some of the cactus I bought I just have not had the time or know the correct name to look them up thats why love this place you can find what you need. You all have beautiful plants I learned just by looking I dont know why the old man was a bit redder than I ever saw was it out in the sun a lot this year? Bye all for now happy growing.

Val Interesting ? - I didn't read any responses yet I found this forum late 2005 after we had a flood in our home. First finding the kitchen forum. I had so much work to do in a very short period of time. Basically an unplanned entire home renovation. The biggest being a kitchen gut & master bath gut. I could not have come to a more welcoming place. I was a maniac poster at times (might cringe if I were able to find my posts) - I had to move us out of this home, find a rental, movers to move contents out, rid of junk/flood ruined things, deal w/the insurance co., GC's, kitchen design, lead abatement, etc,etc, etc & 2 parents who were quite ill. I owe so much of how my home turned out to the talented people on GW - they helped with paint choices in each & every room, wallpaper, cabinet hardware, furnishing choices, rug choices, placement of furnishings, wood stain - You name it there was not a query that went unanswered. I felt overwhelmed to say the least. But GWers were always up to the task. I learned about hanging pics/mirrors which are typically to high, grouping artwork (still working on that one). Types of fabric/paints/carpets - Mind you I was much more concerned with the plumbing runs going through the joists in the LR and how that would be corrected. I think mostly I learned that I had capabilities and to trust myself & my own judgement. Along the way I gained much decorating confidence and became more engaged. I think previously my decorating sense was there, certainly not as educated or engaged. With confidence (much of it gained here) - I ventured out and started to do things I was interested in but afraid to really try - purchased a sewing machine & started some projects. I got an angle grinder & skill saw one Christmas & did my first tile project. I got so many ideas from looking through the eyes/homes of the GW group - still do. Where else can you go and get people(total strangers) willing to give their time and advice to help you? with anything? GW IS THE BEST - that's why I'm still here. Maybe we could have class of xyz reunions!

Here's some pics of what I've done this year. This area has countless cuttings of various Tradescantias and Callisias. There's also some spiderwort (also Tradescantia) and Talinum paniculatum (jewels of Opar) here, that I left in place when pulling up the "lawn grasses." Another area "landscaped" with cuttings of Coleus, Plectranthus, Begonias. The snake plants (Sansevieria) are not from cuttings, but putting them in the ground for temporary summer vacation causes them to grow a TON of new pups/rosettes. This is a Plumeria cutting, severed from mama plant about 2 yrs ago. Doesn't look like it's going to bloom this year yet, but getting BIG! The legs rusted off of this old grill, so I hung it and filled with cuttings of Perilla 'Magilla,' Coleus, Tradescantias & Callisias. Various Begonias. Swedish ivy (Plectranthus verticillatus,) Coleus, arrowhead vine (Syngonium,) Tradescantia fluminensis. Mezoo (Aptenia cordifolia) cutting that was recently shared with me via mail (in a box.) After a few weeks, it has taken root & is blooming. Plectranthus verticillata. The little Hydrangeas in the front of this pic were propagated last year. The elephant ears (Colocasia esculenta) are all divisions from a bin-bulb from Lowe's that I got back in OH almost 20 yrs ago. Various Philodendron vines.

Are you talking about Mexican Sage? They die back in the winter and come back in the spring. If not, just cut a 4-6" cutting, remove all but the top leaves and any flower stalks, dip them in rooting hormone and put them into a mix of 75% potting soil and 25% perlite. In your zone, they should root pretty easily, but start as many as possible just in case. Mexican sage can be rooted the same way, but they root best in the late spring and summer from softwood cuttings.
