Odds and Ends

What do all of you do with those leftover pictures that just don't fit into the theme of your pages? I have been working on my Daughters baby pictures and I am up to her 6th birthday which also includes all the holidays Kindergarden etc. I thought about making a 2 or 4 page spread with these but don't know what to call it. TIA!

Pam.....I just had a batch of pictures of different people in the family and they were all smiling big smiley smiles (is that a tongue twister or what);-). Anyway I put them all together and made a page that said " smile " you're on candid camera. Norma

I saw in one of the scrapbook magazines, where a girl had taken all the odds and ends and put then on a two page spread, and titled it (I think) "Bits and Pieces of my Life." I thought it got really cute. She used all the leftover pieces that had pictures of things, like where she had cropped or just gotten half of a person and wrote for example: Grandma's hands, and then showed a small piece of a photo that had just a picture of her hands. All together it looked good and was a cute way to use the leftovers. Penny

Thank you Chuy! Dave - almost all my plumeria are in pots. I ordered two smaller Waimea last summer (one from Fuzzy and the other from Matt). Those are doing ok, not growing much but no black tips. Since I don't have much patience I went out to buy a 3rd Waimea from a local guy late last summer (he also sells at the SD Plumeria Plant Sale). The plant is about 2.5 feet tall from the soil line. I am guess it has to be 2-3 years old. It weathered the winter fine and was the first one to shoot out claws back in April. When the claws were around 2 inches she stalled completely. I watched her closely in May and June and noticed the claws were started to turn black and falling off. Still I remained hopeful until all the claws have fallen off and the tips started to sink in and got mushy. It was then I realized to save her I had to amputate. I cut about 1-2 inches off from each tip. I covered her with rootone and re-potted her in the 5:1:1 only because I wanted to check her roots (which looked fine) and I wanted to use up the rest of my 5:1:1 Mix. I then left her by the side yard and ignored her only giving her water once a week. Then I read Bill's post about DAP and I thought what the heck I'll slab that on too. A few weeks later I saw these weird popcorn thingies which subsequently turned into new tips. So now it looks like I will get 10 tips out of this disaster. Strangely enough, the 5:1:1 Mix holds a lot more moisture which my Jasmine absolutely love so I am confused as to why Waimea would like that? However, if she continues to thrive then I might have to experiment and put another struggling plumeria into the 5:1:1 and see what will happen. :)

I got the Blue and the regular one. Who knows, they may be one and the same. They're really quite nice. Arid Lands had it at and very reasonable price, less than $20 if I remember correctly. They have sent such beautiful material every time. I'll have to wait and see how it fares in NY. At least I'm on a nice sunny hill in the summer.

Woody, that link worked fine and it was nice to have a look back at gardening years past! You weren't kidding about them blooming at just a few inches, it looks as if they were still in pots and sending up flowers. Thanks for the seed offer but my roses are already on borrowed time with Rose Rosette disease running rampant in the wild multiflora roses and then here and there spreading to garden plants. I'm trying to avoid adding new ones until things settle down... Cyclamen purpurascens seems to be my hardiest, but it flowers midsummer and doesn't go dormant like the other two, which makes it harder to work in than the others. Don't be jealous of the grass. It's perfectly hardy, but frost fades the flower heads and it blooms so late I'm lucky if I get to enjoy the color for more than a few days. Much better suited to the South. Nice to see so many fall flowers. Fall is by far not my favorite season and if it came down to a vote I don't think it would even make the top three but each year I dread it less. Throwing in the gardening towel in September makes for a very long winter, so I'm glad to still have things to enjoy for a few more weeks!

About remembering to use those coffee filters for planter liners - since I don’t have a coffee maker that needs them I have them stored in my garden shed where my empty pots are. It’s part of my organization strategy that I store items that ’go together’ in the same place. Saves me hunting around for spare parts for a task or project. It also frees up space in my brain’s memory bank by not have to remember where all the odds & ends live in my house. Full disclosure - My husband saves small things like bits & bobs in our garage. If he can’t find that specific small item he needs he just buys another. It’s true what they say about opposites attract. Maybe I should’ve posted a pic of his big tool chest drawer - it doesn’t look anything like the pic I did post of my non-kitchen items drawer!

I keep all of those odd pictures and put them on pages like "These are a few of my favorite things", "Simple Pleasures", "Cute as a Button", "Funny Face", "My Life", etc. You get the picture. Anyway, I have pages like this thrown in every 7-8 pages so that all of these odds and end photos are around the same time frame.

The only other thing I've done is if the pictures were all taken within a short period of time (I can usually tell by the clothes - summer/winter), then I just label it "July 1999" or whatever.

I have to agree with Patti from NH. This past Christmas Season, I was such a flake and didn't get many pictures taken. So I had a few of getting the tree, a few of the kids with Santa, and a few of the kids and my husband putting together this very old train track (that still works) that has become a december tradition. Anyways..I put all these on a two page layout and titled it "Getting ready for the Holiday" Or "Christmas" (don't remember now!)
So I must agree if you can do them around a time frame. Spring 2000, March, Friends, etc.. Have fun scrapbooking. We just moved and this is starting to feel like home a little now. So it is time for me to get scrappin' again.

I saw a page a gal made to look like a big bunch of grapes. She cut all those leftovers with a circle cutter, framed each one on purple paper cut in circles also. She overlapped the 'grapes'. Added leaves and those twiney thingies. The title was 'Sarah, the best of the bunch!'

A friend of mine groups all of her leftover pics by who else (family/friend/etc.) would like to have the picture. She has legal envelopes with each person's name on them. All of the leftover pictures with grandma, for instance, get put in the "grandma" envelope. Her goal is to evenutally make an album for close family members. Others, she can simply give the pictures to.

I made a layout like the bunch of grapes one. It took me forever but it was well worth the effort. It is by far everyones favorite layout. Also, I didn't have to feel guilty for throwing out a bunch of pictures that wouldn't have worked for anything else.

Ooooh - I really like the grape idea!!! And I like the fact that it uses purple. I really haven't used that color much at all and I try to vary my colors throughout the whole book.

I have a 6 hour crop in 2 weeks... I hope I remember this one so I can use it. :)

Once again, I get wonderful ideas from you ladies.
