We need to save our crude oil...save it for what?
Comments (2)Actually, I would say that most humans try to do whatever they think is best for themselves and immediate family, without seeming to impinge too outrageously upon others. Just short of official censure, IOW. Obviously a significant minority are utterly selfish and do not stop even at directly harming others and/or their prospects. I agree that every bit of extractable fossil fuel will be extracted and used, presuming our capacity to do so persists long enough. I don't think it will, for a large number of factors: climate change, environmental degradation, costly conflicts over land and resources to name a few. These will likely reduce human civilizations to subsisting on annual sun-fall before we get to all coal and shale deposits. The richest societies will likely manage a partial shift to renewables via best technology but that savings will be engulfed and then some by the ravening horde. It's gonna be a wild ride....See MoreCan't remove Bump head on a Murray m2500.
Comments (6)Thanks so much! Have had one lying around useless for months. Your fix got mine to open up. Had to hit it pretty hard. Also, as to the cap, it can probably be put back on, but pretty sure it will function with out cap, just don't hit that screw down into anything you don't want to get chewed up. Comments (13)We are in N. CA about 90 min north of Sacramento. We have 1 good (but small) appliance shop in town. We will go to Sac or the bay area for decent appliance shops. Thanks for the feedback, folks. After reading I think part of my thought process was that, over the years, I have had incredibly good luck with appliances. I think I've had maybe 2 or 3 services calls for all appliances I've owned in the last 20 years...perhaps I am blinded by that track record. We had both single and double electric ovens on the list. However, it does look like a range-top with single oven, convection microwave, and a warming drawer will meet our needs. If we did double oven, the microwave would be a standard micro and we would eliminate the warming drawer. As far as how we used our oven, we both cook and bake, but much more of the former. We have just a single oven now and we make it work, but my issue is usually with the semi-frequent 2nd dish that needs cooking and also warming up plates (it's a thing for me). As far as induction, I'll take a look again, but the one time I messed with it, I wasn't a fan. as far as the fridge, the idea of a built it is more about "we're dumping XXX$ into this thing, we want to switch from a full size bottom freezer/french door fridge to a side by side counter depth, so let's get the xtra room". Thanks again for the feedback....See MoreBump head on hood?
Comments (7)No - we have a 42" wide hood installed over a 36" cooktop and installed at the correct height of 30" off the cooking surface. (It's also 24" deep.) We are a relatively tall family - ranging from 5'10" (me) to 6'7" (DS). None of us have had issues with hitting our heads. The only time my 6'5" DH hit his head was when he stuck his head inside the hood to look at the fan - when he took his head out, he forgot to drop it and hit the back of his head on the inside of the hood! We use our cooktop & hood as well as the surrounding counterspace all the time, so even the extra 3" on each side have not been a problem. I strongly recommend a hood 6" wider if you do not have upper cabinets flanking the hood. You didn't say, but if your range is in an island or peninsula, then get one 27" deep as well. If it's against the wall, then 24" deep should be fine. Don't get one of those 18" or 21" deep hoods - they don't work well if you use the front burners. If you're worried, get one with rounded edges or "emerald lip" (Vent-A-Hood) so there are no sharp corners. That's what we did b/c I was worried - but the worries did not pan out, thankfully!...See Morebus_driver
