power scrapping

It's me again. I've recently heard of "power scrapbooking", which somehow allows you to complete oodles of pages with far less time. (Too good to be true, I say.) Has anyone heard of this? Also, how long does it take for you guys to finish an average page or two? Thanks.

Yes, there are power scrappers...and I am their queen. I have finished 19 pages in on day.:o)

Creative Memories has "Fast Formulas" Which is a package of pre-cut papers in strips, triangles, etc. That are for creating "QUICK" scrapbook pages. There is also a "Fast Formulas" book. (This is great) It's shows you *tons* of ideas (they call formulas) for a page. Then with each *formula* are 4 more ideas with that. Do I make any sense? Anyways...The book gives you great ideas for creating Great, fast pages.

I'm sure the above posters are right, but isn't it disheartening how willing we are to dump stuff and buy new (myself included)? Such a win-win for manufacturers -- skimp on the quality, and you'll sell that much more. Such a loss for everyone else -- skilled laborers, the environment, consumers... Guess that's why I've stuck with my own crappy microwave for so long. (The LED display stopped working 5 years ago, at 1 year old). Just to spite the people who make these things. And in your case I'd probably try to get the thing repaired, for the same reason. Even though I know it's not the practical choice. Unless it's what everybody did. (I can dream...)

Before the charging center, we had all of those chargers plugged in behind the computer desk, so they were always plugged in. Now we can easily access the plug to pull out when its not in use. Angelcub, my DH already dreams of having a lathe... What is it about men and lathes? My Grandfather wanted a lathe for many years, but my Grandma dutifully always intercepted the Sears catalogue and ripped out the page that had lathes on it. One year he got the catalogue first and a few weeks later his new lathe showed up. Unfortunately my DH already knows about the internet, so ripping pages out of catalogues isn't likely to be a deterrent once he decides he's ready.

I agree they are ready for the trash... but then, who am I to talk? I have a pair of old shoes that I just love... they are easy to slip on and they are so comfortable. And I have never seen another pair like them, so that I could replace them. At this point, both shoes have holes (bit ones, maybe an inch across) in the soles. So now, I make sure not to wear them when it's been raining,because if I do, my socks get wet and I hate that! But when it's dry, my socks just get filthy and I am willing to put up with that just so I can wear these old shows that I like so well (although not in public :-). What's a girl (or guy) to do in a case like that? We've tried taking some of my husbands old (and very expensive) work shoes in to be resoled, and have found that they just don't make most shoes in a way that resoling is possible any more. Just like everything else in our 'throw away' society!

How long to wait depends on how active a Soil Food Web is in that soil. Buried "kitchen scraps" can excite the SFW and cause them to get to work digesting that material which could cause some Nitrogen to be not available to the plants since the SFW is utilizing it. A soil with not much organic matter, and a not very active SFW, will be more apt to show N deficiency then a soil with adequate levels of organic matter would when undigested organic matter, "kitchen scraps", are put in the soil.

Really easy way to "power" through some pages, is to figure out the layout you would like before going to a workshop. Go ahead and put the paper, stickers, or die cuts that you would like to use in a page protector and then when you go to the workshop you just plow through them and put them into your album, that way you don't waste your time trying to figure out the layout when you are at the workshop. It does work

Just to add to what everyone has said:'

CM has a Power Layouts workshop, where (the idea is that) you can complete an album (minus journalling) in a 4 hour workshop.

They supply you with 12x12 pages, then you lay out all your pics. After that, you go back and crop. After that, you pick out stickers, die-cuts, etc to enhance the pages. After that, you glue. Finally, you journal. They supply you with a 12x12 cardboard box, so that at any point you can stop, stack your pages in order, and store them until you get around to working on it again.

This works great if you do "simple pages". I don't. I like a bit of fancy (but not too much) and I also need to think a lot about my journalling. So no matter how much I try to "power scrap", I don't work fast. Nor do I want to. If I work for a couple or 3 hours in an evening, I can do a 2pg spread. Then my brain shuts down LOL!

I just wnet to a CM Power Layout workshop on March 18. It was great! I was able to crop and organize 14 pages (that was how many I needed for the photos from a trip to Oregon two years ago.) I then completed about 3/4 of those pages at the same workshop. Yes, I did use fairly simple layouts and decorations (CM Fast Formulas and Short Cuts), but each page included either die cuts or stickers or both. I was able to finish the album the next day, jounaling included! Since I've only been scrapbooking a year and have 50+ years of photos to catch up on the power layout workshop was terrific! I plan to use it again on my own.
