Well, my friends, I believe I've stumped you. California was a good guess, but I haven't been able to find any reference to a Hell, California that actually exists. It seems that there was a place that was called Hell in the 50's, but it has disappeared now. I might be wrong about this and owe some of you some stars. Let me know. The answer is good old Michigan. There is a Paradise, population several hundred, in the upper peninsula, and a Hell, population around 250, a little west of Detroit, though some may say it's Detroit itself. Hi All this last Trivia weekend of 2007. Thank-you TM!!! Rainy here this morning which finally brought down huge piles of snow off barn roof. In front of doors. Several hours clearing access before it freezes solid. Snuck a peak at Q before heading out; Coca-Cola was my first thought, too. They still sell little bottles in that classic shape at convenience stores. (When we recycle, should we call 'em "Puny PETE"s?) I'm envious Annette: snowdrops & crocus? If I see them any day soon, it'll be the bulbs with their little toes to the wind. My plow guy thought that marker meant "push out here". Here's another vote for yeast raised waffles - my recipe is a little different. * Exported from MasterCook * Raised Waffles Recipe By : Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1/2 cup warm water (105 to 110 degrees) 1 package dry yeast 1 teaspoon sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 cups milk -- warmed (105 to 110 degrees) 1/2 cup unsalted butter -- (1 stick) melted 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 2 eggs Use a large mixing bowl.Batter will rise to double its original volume.Put water in mixing bowl & sprinkle in the yeast.Let stand to dissolve for 5 mins. Add the milk, butter,salt,sugar & flour to the yeast mixture & beat beat until smooth. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let stand overnight at room temperature. Just before cooking the waffles, beat in the eggs, add the baking soda and stir until well mixed. The batter should be very thin. Pour about 1/2 c. to 3/4 c batter into a very hot, oiled waffle iron. Laura- Thank you for the response! I appreciate your input :) This is similar to another plan...my earlier, smaller plan. Then, I started thinking it would be nice to have more space and a second bedroom or study, on the main floor. However, it's just getting too big and the roof lines are too complicated. And...I'm definitely losing the charm of the original structure. So, I went back to the earlier plan, but with some small changes...that make a big difference. I moved the vestibule 'out' 3 feet, which allows the stairway to be closer to the front door. This gives me more room in the back, for an entry to the kitchen! This is something we didn't have before and it's a big improvement. Also, the fridge is now 'outside' the original kitchen, which creates more counterspace and room for a much bigger window, over the sink. We also have room for a shallow pantry, across from the fridge. The wood stove never really fit into the kitchen...although I think we tried every possible combination. And we also tried a sunroom off the back, but the light is all wrong, as that corner faces west. So, instead...it's a glass/screen porch for sitting out and enjoying the breezes or watching the snow...depending on the season! I did add some furniture...with a little Jotul wood stove against the wall. I also love your radiant heat under the floor idea...but the wood stove will give us a place to cook, when the power goes out. So, maybe both? Here's the plan with the furniture...and I probably need more clearance for the wood stove...but there's plenty of room to accomodate that. And maybe a little corner banquette, too! From Lavender Lass farmhouse pictures From Lavender Lass farmhouse pictures I think this will actually end up more of a room with lots of windows that have screens, than an actual porch...but it does give me space for all the things I wanted in the kitchen and just don't have room for...and a great view, too :) Oh, and the detached garage will be off to the left, with the greenhouse on the front...facing southeast. Much better for the plants and easy access to most of the garden spaces!
