I Pea! Mostly a lurker. No layouts and just a few post. I do 4x6 size books for my grandchildren. I am just starting their 3rd one. One book usually takes me through the year with extra pages left over. Very informative site for scrapbooking. I will have to check out your layouts over there. My user name over there is medicated, lol. :)

Hey, Bart! Pea gravel is *usually* larger than you'd want....however, it can substitute for the granite grit. On occasion, I've found pea gravel in the 1/8 to 1/4 inch range which was very nice for my mixes. The other thing to consider is that pea gravel isn't very "sharp." Sharp, irregular grit seems to be better overall in terms of open drainage and root-development (abrasion). Josh

I'd give it at least another week and again two weeks after that. Not sure if the floating row cover is sufficient to protect from our sleet and ice storms without collapsing. It may work initially but once your seeds are sprouted they'll want something to climb on and full sun/bright light. Your supports you'll want to push into the soil deeper than usual to keep them erect under the weight of the pea plants plus any ice/snow/sleet on the row cover. I've used cuts from brushy deciduous shrubs and had them topple over if the main branch isn't long enough or thick enough, especially in mounded rows of loosened soil. We could still have this weird mix of ice/sleet/torrential rains mixed with periods of oddly warm weather so whatever you attempt for early crops is going to be an experiment. That's why I say plant a second row a couple weeks after the first.

You should be ok. They usually grow very slow in midwinter, then begin the rush to production around the spring equinox. I plant in December and usually have a good crop in April.This was taken a s a photo of winter carrots, But peas are on the right onions on the left taken this past week.

A grass patio isn't fun to use when it's wet, you have to move furniture to mow (as stated above), and god help you if you have a fidgeter (I would have a bare spot under my seat in about three hours). Of all the gravels I like the look of pea gravel the best. If you do an inch or so of pea gravel over a compacted base of 21a/ABC/crusher run, it's very solid and walkable, but it's still a rounded stone. The more use the patio sees, the more it'll migrate. As Yard mentioned above, an angular stone stays put better. Here we used #8 chip gravel at a VERY busy winery (lots of foot traffic) and there's very little migration into the beds or lawn areas. In your circumstance, I'd build the patio on a base of 6 inches compacted crusher run, then an inch of your decorative aggregate. An advantage of this is that down the road if budget allows, the decorative aggregate and a little of the crusher run can be scraped off and the patio converted to dry-laid flagstone. That's how we did our patio, because our 100 year old home still needs a new kitchen and a new downstairs bathroom and a new boiler and... yeah don't buy old homes unless you're independently wealthy. Ok, I give up. What is PEA?
I'm addicted to scrapping, trying to learn some stamping. I've collected so much info, supplies, etc for scrapping from online & Hobby Lobby, etc. my butt's growing from all the sit-down hobbies I have. LOL!!! I love message boards too...which takes up a lot of my computer time.

I pea'd for awhile, but seeing how the NSBR board was, I gathered up my toys and came home to GW............

Scary stuff out there Ladies, and the GS board is mainly enabling purchasing.

I do enjoy looking through the gallery though, I get some inspiration there.
