patty cakes....the only code I have for JCPenney is "SNOW". It is good for free shipping. Hope this helps.

JC Penny is like any other retailer--they have more expensive lines that are well-crafted and they have budget lines that aren't as well-made. A lot depends on how the specific piece you are looking at is constructed. All hardwood or lots of softer woods? How are the pieces of the frame joined together, glue or doweling? Eight-way hand-tied springs or those sinuous steel springs? What's the upholstery fabric, thin cotton/poly or high-end microfiber or 100% wool or linen? Even Ikea has lower and higher priced lines of furniture. I wouldn't buy a piece of upholstered furniture without being able to find out what's inside it and how those pieces have been put together. There's a place for the lower-end furniture--as an occasional chair that's used only when there's company, in a guest room, etc. But if you are looking for something for your family room, that will be used daily and get a lot of use and possibly abuse from small kids or pets, I'd use that picture as inspiration. To me, it would be worth calling around and finding a store that has that sectional on the floor and driving there, even if it took 3 or 4 hours. I'd want to sit on it to make sure it was comfortable to me. I'd want to shake the arms to see how sturdily they were attached. I'd want to feel the fabric to make sure it wasn't scratchy or wrinkled easily. And I'd want all the information on what's inside it and how it's made. And if I ended up not liking the sectional at JC Penny, I'd take that picture to every local furniture store around and ask them what they had in a similar style. Granted, I'm very fussy about the upholstered pieces I buy. A table or desk from a catalog? No problem. Something I'm going to flop down on coming home from a hard day's work? That I want to test-sit and make sure it is comfortable and sturdy.

I do wish you the best, but I would be very cautious ordering from JCP. In Jan. 09 we special ordered 2 chairs. They came in April and I refused delivery as both chairs were seriously flawed. I find it hard to believe they had even passed quality control from the factory. The next order came in June, and JCP sent the chairs back. The chairs were flawed again. The third and final order came in Sept 09. One chair was missing a plastic foot cap, and they were suppose to order it immediately. My DH's chair after 1 month developed 2 grooves in the seat, so I called JCP and they sent someone out to repair the chair. He said he would order the parts, and they would mail the parts to me, and then he'd repair it. By the end of Nov 09, I called JCP furniture customer service to ask about the status of my chair parts. They said they had no order for parts. I immediately said that I wanted them to take the chairs back, and return my money. Two weeks latter they took the chairs, and within 6 weeks I had received my new chairs from another company. I would be very concerned about customer service, quality control, and repair.

I bought 2 beds from Jcpenney for my boys (the Canyon) but they are out of stock until 11/30 so I can't speak for the quality. However, this bed is the clone of PB's Sumatra and cost 279 vs 1500. For children's bed I would go cheap (especially w/ girls) because once they hit their teens they surely want something else. I have a lot of furniture from PB and not all of them are good quality. For example, I have the large ARIS desk (retail 1200) and last night, the keyboard broke off when my DS leaned on it. The wood piece that held up the bracket is actually made of very soft wood and splintered to pieces. I am surely glad I only paid 100$ for that desk (via Craiglist)otherwise I would cry! :-) My friends all have PB's beds for their kids (it's a yuppy thing) and they told me PB doesn't hold up very well for the price. If you want heirloom quality furniture, I would just get it custom made. I got the price quoted and it's about 600-800 for a full size bed (also depend on the wood species but if you are getting painted it would be cheaper). Sorry for a long post. For me, PB is not worth the price. I either go really cheap or just go custom (if you want to keep the piece for future grand kids). My DD has a handcrafted 2ndhanded bed and it's still going strong at 20+ years. I bought it from a lady whose DD was going for college and doesn't need the bed anymore. Have you checked out this site? http://www.laylagrayce.com/searchresulthome.aspx?CategoryID=45 They sell beds by this company -- bradshaw kirchofer which I totally love. The price is in line w/ PB but you can also get your carpenter do it for cheaper, or if you have a designer friend, I think they give designer discount. http://www.bradshawkirchofer.com/500CAN.htm good luck and sorry for the long post. ;-)
