John thanks for the link but that's the first place I checked. 10 feet wide is the widest, and for even a 4 foot tall pepper plant (many are taller than that) , you'd have to figure 5 feet on each side at least and then enough to reach the ground to tuck all edges under the pot iteself to keep it completely sealed from pests. It's funny as the picture they show looks like it would be the 61 inch model and even their stock photo there looks to small to cover a small row of some kind of vegetation with one whole side exposed. I recall calling and speaking to a woman asking her what I should do in my situation and she had NO clue. Which is why I came here I can;t beleive anyone that grow in pots would be SOL if these stalk boring insects come to town....

salex, thank you for the compliment, and congrats on finding the lab tops! IIRC, I started with a finer grit--maybe 320--and ended with 600. I think Lowes carries the 600 grit now, but 6 years ago I had to buy it an an auto shop. I sanded only the bare minimum to make the tops presentable, and actually left a few scratches in less prominent spots. Somewhere on the back of my counter you can still read the name 'Kyle.' I was trying to make old lab counters smoother, and you are trying the reverse. ;) So, try a finer grit, and see if it works. I don't recall the sandpaper getting gummed up, but I think I worked on my tops in cooler weather. I sanded all the top beveled edges, to make them smooth and rounded, and of course sanded the exposed cut edges on each side of my farm sink. I used an old belt sander on the beveled edges, starting with a lower grit (maybe 120), and working my way to 600, so there might have been some residue left in the coarser grit paper. When I used the 600 grit, which is almost like emery cloth, I cut it in strips, and used the 'shoeshine' method, with one end gripped in each hand, as I moved along the length of the top. I left the bevel on the bottom edges--I don't think anyone has ever noticed. My brother cut the pieces with his grinder, so I laid out a legend/template ahead of time, and tried to use as many whole pieces as possible, and tried to make sure that the cut sides would face the wall. My only problem was wearing/breaking of the router bits I used on the runnels, and my BIL later said that I had the speed on the router set too high. When he drilled the holes for the faucet he had the same trouble at first, but tried a slower setting on the drill press, and it worked much better. Maybe if you try a slower sanding speed, there will be less friction and heat and less gumming of the epoxy. ***I'm sure you're taking the proper safety precautions since you've read my posts, but I'll remind any future researchers: Always work outside, wear a mask, and keep a vacuum cleaner by the back door, to remove as much dust from your hair and clothing, as possible, before re-entering the house. It would also be a good idea to take clean clothing outside, and change into it at the end of the work session, to keep from dropping dust as you walk through your house. On one site I'd read, there was a post that mentioned asbestos fibers being included in the epoxy mix in older counters--I've never been able to verify that info, or whether fibers might be released if a top is cut or sanded, but no sense taking chances, even if your counters appear to be much newer.*** Good luck, and when you have them finished, please post pics.
