help! need light over kitchen sink, island, dr, etc.

After spending much of my life on this forum two years ago when I reno'd the kitchen in my current house, we decided to purchase a nearly-finished, new construction home in our neighborhood and I'm having a really hard time choosing lighting fixtures. We live in an historic area where most of the homes are arts & crafts style & nearly 100 years old. A rare large lot was subdivided and this home was built (on spec) to match the character of the surrounding homes. We just decided to buy it and will close in one month. I've been on a mad dash to the stone yard, tile store, knob store & all went smoothly but I'm really stuck on lighting. I think I'm looking for contemporary arts & crafts in ORB to match door hardware & kitchen faucet, but I'm having a hard time finding anything graceful and really think the open space over the sink is an opportunity for something pretty. Anyone have suggestions/pics/inspiration for me?

Check out Rejuvenation -- we got a really pretty semi-flushmount Mission two light for over our sink (the Bernard). They have many, many different options, and you can customize finish and shades on many of them.

I don't think lights in the two different rooms need to be matchy-matchy, although you'll want something Arts&Crafts-inspired for both rooms, and maybe use the same finish.

I love all these ideas! And Beth I love how you photoshopped the fixture into my kitchen pic! That is really brilliant! You all are giving me some courage and hope! I was really worried I’d blown it by going to bold with the pendants over the island since my kitchen table is so close in proximity to island. So I think what I’m hearing and seeing is ok to go with different style as long as there’s some element that ties in with island pendants - like shape or finish. I kind of like the idea of tying into the round shape of metal rings that frame bottom of pendant shades. I think the contemporary round fixture with fabric shade fits that theme with the ring of metal surrounding top and bottom of shade. Also the clear glass pendant has similar metal rings on it. I really like the blue fixtures as well. Do you all agree that I should keep diameter of fixture on the small side since things in my kitchen are so close to one another? You guys are the best!

The floor is all the same color (one area there was cardboard down). Just poor quality lighting in the photos, thus the question. I am looking at keeping this a cottage, so nothing dressy. Rustic/casual ideas are great. I don't want an abundance of shadowing, so do I need to avoid glass? 2 large glass pendants was my original first choice. I really like the Rejuvanation Hood Pendant, but the dust? or glare? I also like the mini echo pendant by Tech Lighting. Looks like easier to maintain and no glare? So with a 90" X 55" island, would either of these work? Will I be sorry with the maintenance of glass globe?
