Anyone with ring pulls on their drawers and/or cabinets?

Does anyone out there have ring pulls on their drawers or cabinets? Are they practical? or just fancy decoration?

I really like the look but just don't know how well it would work on a day in day out basis.

Had them for years for practical reasons. We had a carpenter replace our 70's laminate/oak strip doors with wood doors. The 70's laminate doors didn't have any knobs/pulls since they had the oak pull strip so we didn't realize we had an issue until the new full overlay doors were installed. The ring pulls were the only type of pull that would work with some of the drawers since a regular knob or pull would have blocked perpendicular cabinet doors from opening. We had no problems using them for 10 years or more. In fact, they were quite expensive and I saved them when we did a complete remodel, with the thought that I might find a future use for them.

I have ring pulls with a mortised backplate on my pots and pans drawers. I do not find that it takes any extra effort over the other pulls.

I did this in the guest/kids bath when we remodeled a couple years ago. I have a double sink vanity in there and the drawer pulls are the traditional bar pulls. I have two 9" pull outs( similar to a bottle/spice pull out in a kitchen) that I keep shampoos lotions etc. in. Mounted at the top I put 8 3/4" bar pulls at the top. The spread between screw holes is about 6 1/2". It is perfect to put a handtowel on and works great right next to the sink. The great thing is that since it is a pull out-the towel doesn't interfere with any other drawers underneath opening and getting shut. I hope that makes sense. I would post pics, but not sure how.

I have some on a built-in cabinet that I designed and had built for my dining room. Mine have the backplate. I wanted to protect the paint (from chipping). Love the look. Drop ring hardware was big in the 70's. My parent's kitchen had them. I don't recall them being difficult to use at all! Hi, Jigs work, and if all the hardware is the same they can be an awesome time saver, just make sure you are positioning them properly and not running in "automatic" mode. I used 6 types of hardware, so making six jigs was not considered. I came up with a rule for positioning bar pulls, and shared it here years ago, but it's worth repeating. Make your pulls slightly higher than the centerline of the drawer if you want them to appear centered. You need then a bit higher to overcome the forced perspective that you will impose on them by the virtue of being more than 3ft tall. When you look down on a bar pull that's mathematically centered, it looks lower. 1/16 to 1/8" is about the fraction to raise them. I use the Festool 5mm Centrotec drill bit for knob screw holes. It is the best bit for the job, as there is very minimal tearout on the back side, and while it is a brad-point bit it does not grab aggressively into the wood. A brad-point is crucial, because you can place it on your mark within 0.005 every time (if not using a template ) After you have aligned your doors, mark for the hardware that are adjacent to each other, like pairs of doors. Use a small level to see that they are both the same measurement and the same height/level from the floor. Double check that you're not drilling into the hinge side of doors! One pull centered on each drawer. But if you don't like the hardware itself, or the finish.......that hardly matters, does it?. Leave it alone and re select hardware. Perhaps a simple warm brass or bronze/black cup pull...... and a simple knob for each of the doors. Very much in keeping with bead board back. Or a simple knob on everything, one to each door and drawer. If you were worried it was looking like kitchen......that is due to the white paint and bead board. An accent paint color may have been better for the piece, with simple warm brass knobs. ........ lending more of a furniture quality look , versus an extension of your kitchen which I assume to be white. I think that is what's actually bothering you . I wouldn't worry about mixing the metal and selecting something entirely different from the kitchen.....but maybe it should be a different paint color : ) Either way, load it up, style it up and then decide......

I'm on a ring pull hunt right now but for our living room built in cabinets. I'm having a heck of a time finding the right pull with the right finish at the right price. I love ring pulls.

Annsch, I can post a picture later tonight. With it mortised, I like the way my fingers naturally follow the back curve to grab the pull. They are similar to these at Vandyke's, but mine were a different size I purchased on clearance that I don't think they carry now.
