Does anyone know what style and era this came from? Pics!

My sister bought this twin bed and dresser and is wondering if I knew anything about it. I am thinking it is from the 40's or 50's and is art notue. I know the spelling is wrong and hope ya'll understand what I am trying to say. (lol)

I'd say 1915-1929. Does it hold a full mattress without the side reails having been extended?

As for style, I'm a bit torn. The little Queen Anneish legs on the dresser but the -- are they Duncan Phyfe? -- hardware. . . Someone with more knowledge will come along, I'm sure.

is it a typo, art notue, should have been art novue, as in art nouveau ?

Thanks Peg, as I said in my article, occassionally plumerias will pop a root from the side of the bark during the rooting process. This is however a very rare even. Most plumerias do not develop any roots from the side of the bark during the rooting process. In addition, as they grow older, none ever develops roots from the side of the bark. What I am trying to acheive in my current project is not just to make a root or two from the side of the bark but rather to develop two to four times the number of roots that are at the botttom. This way, the plumeria plant will be anchored very well and will be very vigorous. George

It is ash and ash veneer. I'll go out further on a limb to say it's Asian ash. From the looks of the label, I'll guess it's no older than 25-30 years. It's their interpretation of a Queen Anne style. Casey

Missymar, If you're still building you could use what I used. 4x4 window @ $740 plus shipping from www.texascustomdoors.com when I bought it last year. It is completely obscure but it lets in a ton of light. They have other choices including ones with colored glass. Yeah, the ones from the '70s were the worst for energy consumption. They were being built with thinner insulation than earlier models, and the '70s were when they got the idea to install heating wires around the door edges to keep the units from sweating along with heaters in the freezer. A good clue when gaugeing the age of appliances is to look at the color trends they have. When was the last time you bought anything new that had dark, fake woodgrain as part of the look on an appliance? A BF I once had recently, went out and bought a W/D set "that were only four years old" he said, but he did not think it was odd that they came in Harvest Gold. True story. I told him they were at least 30-40 years old and he thought I was nuts judging an appliance by the color. I can't believe that even a guy, would not know color trends by manufacturers over the decades, even taking into account that guys are not into 'decorating'. Harvest gold. Four years old. Hhahaha. The bed and dresser are remarkably similar to the bed and dresser my mother used as a little girl--the pulls on the drawers, the color of the wood, the type of decoration, the legs on the dresser. She was born in 1926. So I'd place the furniture from maybe 1910-1930.

Sorry I can't help with the style.

I have a double bed and two dressers (same pulls) from my great aunt. The bed also has the curved footboard. Our sets look very, very similar. My mother thinks that it was bought between 1920-1925. The "inlays" on the dresser and bed used to have flowers (that I stupidly, but accidentally!) removed during a refinishing process.

Your sister's furniture is absolutely lovely! I'll bet she's thrilled. I'd say the dates you're getting here sound about right, 1920-1930ish. It does have an Art Nouveau flair. Here are two that may interest you:

I am learning something new-- I always thought that type of hardware = 1940s. I had no idea it could be from much earlier furniture!

I was thinking possibly Art Nouveau too. I purchased a similar full sized bed at a local thrift store ($12.99)that I'll make into a toddler day bed. It was already stripped when I purchased it. I'll ask tomorrow if any of the ladies know the age since I'll be in town tomorrow.
