And it was only $30! It's quite large at about 50" tall. Totally over the top :D The gal selling it said something about it being kind of old, 30 yrs. I wish I had come up with my reply while I was there!
It's not old if it's younger than me.

My 8 yr old son said "It's like we live in a CASTLE!"

At that point I knew. I'm totally susceptible to suggestion. If I hadn't been hypnotized by Victoria Elizabeth and her kingdom mirror, I might have been able to resist this. I say might, because I'm a sucker for mirrors and over-the-top. Good thing most of my decor is understated :)

Too bad it's not 8 ft tall, sigh.

You now have your own kingdom so does that make your son the dirty rascal or is he the king for claiming the castle and you are the dirty rascal. How fun. Looks great.

Sherry, when I received the email notification that you had commented on my blog, the address line of the sender (you) was this: sherryocala [noreply-comment@blogger.com] You get email replies to your comments from me because I already have your email address. I just get it from my contacts folder. When setting up your Blogger profile, you have to actively check the "show email address" option, otherwise your email is hidden. Many folks do this on purpose, thinking that providing their email will be a wide-open door to Spam City. My email is available on my blog, and here on GW, and I can't say that I have noticed any increase in spam because of it. It's all in the way that I blog. I skip around reading blogs ... many of which come from sidebar blog lists of other blogs I enjoy ... and I lose track of where I've been. If a blogger uses the comment section for a reply, chances are that I will never see it. (You can subscribe to comment replies on blogger blogs ... I did that once on a very popular blog, and my inbox was inundated with everyone's replies.) I think of personal comment replies as Thank You notes ... it's just what I do, and I feel bad when I can't send a personal reply. Just this morning, I had two lovely comments from folks that I couldn't contact personally. I commented on the blog, and I hope they see it. Other readers got personal replies, with our dear Professor Roush receiving a continuation to a comment conversation that started between the two of us on his blog ... which is FABULOUS, BTW.

I'm totally addicted to blogs, and I have a blog. I'll keep looking for the one you mentioned. You can google "design blogs" and get a list of popular ones. You can find them through Apartment Therapy, Houseblogging.com, and even magazines like House Beautiful and Better Homes and Gardens either have blogs on their websites or list them in issues. There've been many blogs mentioned here, like Southern Hospitality, A Country Farmhouse, For the Love of a House, to name a few. Once you get to a blog, they usually list blogs they read. Some I've been reading lately are An Urban Cottage (he's in Cambridge), Elements of Style (just moved to Newton Centre, MA), In the Little Yellow House (northern New Jersey), Your Home and Color Coach (Boston Metro West) and SoPo Cottage (Maine). I also like to read Martha Stewart's blog for a taste of lifestyles of the rich and famous. Other popular ones are Decor8, Centsational Girl, Colour Me Happy. If you like old houses there are some on myoldhouseonline.com.

Yes i do feel the same. Too many forums have dried -up that i use to like. I do not know about this Garden Web future. This forum is big,but well organized. I am interested in growing tree fruits, not tomato or garden stuff but i do grow garden stuff. tree fruits are more complecated so you need more knowledge about them.I have been active in forums since the seventies and my interest are sub-tropicals only.(persimmon,oranges,manderins,atemoya etc.) Finding a forum to suit me is not easy,stuff that i post is usely not of interested to many. There are many people on the different forums that are very dedicated,more so then me so, there are always good info from them for the future. Bob.

Just referring to Henri's comment about roots a few posts above, own root roses produced by vegetative propagation do not have a PR (tap root) as defined in his comment. Budded roses may have a tap root IF the understock was propagated by seed (as is common in Europe) but that will have been severed off at least once (maybe twice) until the rose finds its way into ones's garden. This is most probably unuseable knowledge but I just thought to make the point.. With regards to chemical fertiisers, the mistake that many gardener's make is to use all purpose, so called balanced, fertilisers rather than ones better suited to their plants and soil conditions. For the average ornamental garden, where not much is extracted from it in the form of produce and unless there's a severe imbalance in the soil, nitrogen is really the only macronutrient commonly needed to be added. As such they may be better off using less potent 'organic' fertilisers but these should contain an adequate amount of nitrogen (difficult to make sure) and be aware that phosphorus accumulation may also result due to excessive usage of organic fertilisers. In terms of cost, unless one has free access to the source of organic fertilisers, the cost of fertilising organically is commonly many times dearer than chemical fertilisation.

Not exactly, trying...

I have a lot of mirrors and they've gotten progressively ornate. But, I usually go back and forth about buying things that I don't NEED. I didn't do that at all this time.

The chair by the window is going to be reupholstered as soon as I find my fabrics. The view in the mirror will be lovely from that seat. I always hang my mirrors to reflect something I want to see :)

That mirror is fabulous! I have a thing for mirrors, too, although I don't like to see myself in them!

Is it a Craigslist find? Is it brass?

alex9179 , Aww yes, me too. I actually have a beautiful ornate and huge mirror just sitting around because I can't find a place for it. It is a bright gold and I thought about chalk painting it, but there is just nowhere that it really fits. Well hmmmm, now you've got me thinking.

Craigslist, yes! They live 5 minutes from my house.

Not brass, I believe it's resin which I'm ok with. I certainly would have paid a lot more from someplace like Home Goods I think it's pretty and I love the leaf detail. My house tends to be dark and adding large mirrors across from the windows helps move the light around.

An old, chippy wood framed mirror in my kitchen eating area.

An old pic of the dining room, but that mirror reflects the chandelier and the living room window behind me. That was found in the garage of our old house!

This is the "Snow White" mirror in my daughter's room. Looks orange-y, but it's an aged gold.

And the mirror that was in the living room before the new purchase. A gift from my mom :)

I can't wait until we decide on a layout for our bathroom and I can shop for the one(s) that will go in there!! All I know is that they will be big.

Oh my Victoria Elizabeth would be proud of you. Your new mirror is lovely and certainly qualifies it as a Kingdomette mirror. That truly was a great bargain.

I too, have a thing for mirrors but my CL find was 200 bucks with free delivery. The darn thing is so heavy that it will take two burly men to hang it. It is currently stowed up against the wall in the garage of our secondary home. Some day I swear I will bring it to our primary home and hang it!

She is VictoriaElizabeth. I've seen her mostly on Bathrooms but according to her blog they will be tackling their kitchen next, so I expect to see her frequent Kitchens.

She's a hoot!
