My oldest wet his bed almost nightly until about 6 months ago. He's 13 1/2. I'd wake him up and literally walk him to the bathroom, where he'd stand there and sway back and forth, go walk into his closet, pee in there, then head back to bed. Sometimes he'd use the trash can. He'd have no memory of it in the morning. He was such a heavy, heavy sleeper. Sometimes it was best just to leave him in bed, at least I knew where he had the accident. We all laugh about it now, but he had the same problems, couldn't have sleep outs or sleepovers. Even now if he's going to sleep out, he won't drink anything after 7:00. He's still a very heavy sleeper. I had the same problem as a kid, so did his dad. And we were both heavy sleepers as kids. My son, also, unfortunately inherited my bladder size, so that doesn't help. The pediatrcian just advised that we wait it out and didn't give medication. I worry so much about my kids taking medications, and since this wasn't anything physically painful, we decided to wait it out. It took awhile, but things are fine. My younger two never had a problem, and both have bigger bladders than I do, I swear. They're not as heavy sleepers as the older one. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be (daily stripping of the bed, frustrated child). Personally, I'd try to wait it out if you can, although I don't believe the medication has any side effects you should be concerned about.

I re-read your letter. I applaud you for not abandoning your children, and leaving them to fend for themselves if you left. That is a real father. A father who will make sacrifices for the children. It sounds as if your wife was in the wrong type of counceling. It sounds as though what she really needs are classes in anger management for the well being of your children. Perhaps that is one of the things you will require of her that you will not waiver on. After re-reading your first two posts, I believe that what I suggested in the above two posts sounds like a long shot. And I can imagine how difficult it would be to pull off with a person who is angry and bitter. Especially given how you feel about her. Does she have ANY good points? If so, what are they? I think it would be so depressing to live with someone who has been depressed for 20 years, and is so angry and bitter. If it were me, (OK, I am climbing up on that soapbox for a speech) I think I would tell them that I am sick of them using depression as an excuse for rotten behavior. I would tell her that if it is real depression...meaning chemical imbalance of some sort, then to get herself to a doctor and get her medications right. And if it is depression caused by her own disappointments in life, then suck it up and put a smile on your face and start doing some of the things you need to do. Because the kids and I hate living like this, and your anger and bitterness is destroying our family and the childhood of these children. They do not get a second chance at childhood...this is it, and it is going to be happy from tomorrow on. And if you cannot be a part of making this family a happy and good place to be, then I (meaning you Dave) will step up to the plate and raise these kids and give them that happy, safe childhood. Your 14 year old has so little childhood left, and I (meaning you Dave) am going to make sure it is great! Are you on board, or are you going to continue to hide behind your depression and anger and bitterness, doing your best to make sure home life is crappy for us all? She has a choice to make here. And you may find she is on board, and will begin some new changes, or that she likes being angry and miserable...and then you will know what you need to do. Forgive me for the two messages above, as after I re-read your original posts, I realized how they must sound to someone who is really in the pits in a marriage to someone who is so angry, and bitter all the time. I am not sure any of us could actually rise to the occasion if we were in your shoes and actually pull off what I suggested above. It sounds as if the marriage is just too miserable to actually bring yourself to do as I suggested. Not that it couldn't be done, but it would take a better person than I am to pull it off. Unless she actually makes a decision to change. If she does...perhaps she will surprise you all! In my best pollyanna view...I sometimes think that we can change someone else by being really kind to them. I sometimes have these wierd thoughts that you could take her for a morning of pampering (facial, massage) and then take her for a new outfit, and take just her out to dinner. That by you treating her differently, that maybe she will thaw out, and begin to see herself differently, and begin to change and laugh and smile. That she will "want" to be a better woman for her family. Perhaps it is just wishful thinking...but just maybe????? Anyone, I forget that some people actually "like" to be angry and bitter and miserable all the time. That is their comfort zone. Perhaps she is one of those people. I don't know.

My first thought is what weed30 brought up. Small children can be confusing and threatening to cats. They mistake a crawling child for an animal and not a human. He may just be trying to mark his territory before this other "pet" does. I've read that once children start to walk, the behavior will often abate. Make sure your child isn't making the kitty feel harassed. Maybe even set up a kitty bedroom on a closet shelf, or some other high up area where the cat feels like it can get away from the child. My other thought was about litter box placement. Did you move it or change anything about it at the time the behavior started? Of my last 3 cats, 2 have been extremely picky about the litter box. My new little guy will just go ahead and poop outside the box if he doesn't like the conditions. My old girl will hold everything if one little thing is out of order. A few years ago we had the litter box in a closet where we stored other utility items. DH set a very small wooden shelf against one wall, and out of the way. That one change was enough to disturb her and deter her from using the box. So make sure he is comfortable with the box situation- peeing is faster and less vulnerable than pooping. Is it possible that the box is located somewhere where the cat has felt threatened by the presence of the child while he is in it? Like in a second bathroom where the child's bath belongings are? Just a thought... He may feel threatened by the kid (or something else) in an area that he use to consider his sacred turf. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a vet check the cat out to make sure that everything is in order. It would be a shame to chalk the problem up to behavior if it was based on a physical issue.

I'm sorry, thirteen years old is TOO old to still be holding his dad's hand and laying his head on his shoulder. Ewwww. There are so many problems with this relationship. - he babies his THIRTEEN year old son - his son is jealous of you - he pays for everything for his son when he already gives BM child support - he pays for BM's expenses - thinks he abandoned his family - he did not abandon his family but because he feels this way BM will use this to her advantage to squeeze more money out of him - because he feels guilty he will probably let his son get away with bad behavior - pays all this CS and BM does not support her child It's funny that your BF says he gives BM all this money because he had no reason to have money for himself or save, yet he can barely afford to pay his half of the bills. There is always a reason to save. He is giving BM all his money to his own detriment. What will he do if something unexpected were to happen to himself - car repair, medical bill? What is he saving for retirement? You are right this relationship will hold you back. You're young, you're 23, you have your whole life ahead of you. The only problem is you have fallen in love with him so you can't see that this relationship will not work. My story - I dated a man for two years that had a 8 year old son. Because he felt guilty that he didn't see his son every day, he spoiled him. His son was spoiled and treated like a little adult. BF even let him sleep in the bed with him! I was like this kid is TOO big to still be sleeping with you. This kid was always walking on the furniture and jumping on things. I told BF his son was TOO big to be doing that, but BF was like what's the big deal? Those couches are old anyway. Don't you know one time BF and I were laying bed watching TV, and his kid JUMPS into the bed, and lands right on my shin! I screamed because this kid was heavy and it really hurt when he landed on my leg. I told BF that was the reason why he needed to stop this kid from jumping on things all the time. Needless to say, BF continued to be a guilty/lazy parent. He would not make his son mind. I have two daughters of my own, and I made them listen. I disciplined them when they needed it. BF never wanted to discipline his son because he "didn't want to ruin the limited amount of time" they had together. As a result, his son was rude, spoiled, and never did what he was told. In addition, he too, struggled fiancially to pay his bills because of CS. He was very eager for me and my daughters to move in with him. He kept saying how wonderful it would be to have someone to share the bills with. I realized he was more interested in me helping him pay his bills than in sharing a life together. Eventually I broke up with BF. It was hard at first, because I loved BF so much, but as time went on, it got better. I realized I would not have been happy. And that's what you have to think about. Are you really happy in this relationship with the way things are? Sure, when the son's not around, things are probably great, but the real test of a relationship is not when things are good, it's when things are bad. And what if dad decides to get more time with his son? That's what happened to me. I never in a million years thought my BF would get more time with his son. His BM depended on CS too much, or so we thought. Don't you know one day she tells BF she is too busy with work and school to handle the son and lets BF have him. So BF went from every other weekend to his son to having him 24/7. I knew I could not handle dealing with his son on a daily basis. Sure, he didn't have to pay CS anymore, but getting full custody brought on a whole another set of problems. I was not ready to deal with a kid that I did not raise, that did not want to listen to me and that I could not discipline the way he needed to be. The way I dealt with the situation is I ended it. I know that's not what you want to hear, but now that I am able to look back I realize it was the right decision.
