how to start a scrapbooking class

I just starting scrapbooking and I just love it. I have learned alot and I know I will be learning more as I proceed. I have a lot of friends that want to get together and crop. They either have not every scrapbook or do a little of it. I live in a small little town. We have to travel to get supplies for scrapbooking. I don't know enough to be able to teach the class. I recently went with a friend to a scrapbooking party. I was very disappointed in the party. I traveled an hour to go to this and it was not fun, not informative not interesting at all. I want to be able to provide all the supplies and paper so that no ones has to travel to go get the supplies. There will have to be a charge for the class to pay for the supplies. Anyway, my question is how do I go about getting it together or do you think it will work out. I have a few friend that do wonderful work on their scrapbooks. They have offered to give some advise to the classes. What supplies would be needed? Would I serve snacks and drinks or let them bring their own? How long should the class be? How ofter should we meet? And the questions go on and on. I their is anyone that has done this before and could give my some advise. I would really love to hear it.

When I went to the beginning class they went over the basic tools needed. We were asked to bring a few pictures we would like to work on and learn. We then were shown how to crop, make oh shoot I can't think what it's called right now but it like the frame around the picture to put on the page. We were told to journel. Just basic stuff. You do know that when doing scrapbooking anything go, so it's just what you think looks good.

It's matting, that's what it's called. I have a basic scrapbooking book. I can give you some ideas out of there if you'd like

I'm not from Scott County (Knox County born and raised). I ran out of time to cover everything I wanted to cover but I think everyone learned something. In the future I think i can cut about 45 minutes off the lecture by leaving out the botany lesson about eipgeal vs. hypogeal genrmination and moncotyledons vs. dicots and so on... I'm considering other classes this summer such as Pruning, Organics, and Integrated Pest Management, but I don't know yet. The time and money for materials required to set these classes up is a major hurdle. I'd love to keep teaching free classes but I'll go broke, and I'm not sure I'm "qualified enough" to charge admission.

Michelle -- are you still working on this? I have the same assignment for my daughter's class. The past few years they have included: * full formal class pic with teachers, * many candids, * individual pic of each child, * individual baby pic of each child (w/out captions -- anwer key at end, a guessing game, really), * write-ups for every grade/teacher (In Mrs. Lucy's Kindergarten class, we....), * a Remember When section, for kids to post both funny stories and on-going pass-times, * a "trends" page (names of popular artists, fashions), * poetry, artwork, etc. * a "In the year XXXX I will be ..." section for each students predictions. * a couple of pages for autographs. Any other ideas from anyone? Any other resources you've found helpful?

I would suggest that everyone try to find a scrapbooking group in your area. I'm a visual person, and it helps me to see what everyone else is doing. It's nice to see that you aren't the only one out there with the hobby and provides some motivation for getting stuff done. We have a local store that offers a crop night each week and various classes throughout the year. Last night was my second time there. If you need ides or get stuck on something, you always have someone to ask for advice. The people who run the crop are helpful also. They often have ideas on things like cleaning up messes on a page, useful coverups, and they know the best places to look for ideas. In addition to this crop night, I'm starting to get together with friends to scrapbook also. It's nice to be able to set aside time to scrapbook without the kids and have a little adult time.

I have not done this myself, but I have seen postings on other boards. I think the standard going price is about $5.00 per hour plus supplies. I think it should be AT LEAST minimum wage but you can ask for what you think you can get. Most people will never understand how time consuming it really is! But I have heard it was easier to do other people's pics because you are not "close" to them. If you are going to include journaling you will need them to submit info so you will have it. If you can make ANY money at all, I say go for it !!! As for me, I might not live long enough to get all my own pics done!! Good luck! Rebecca

I went to a new friends house tonight and scrapbook with her. I did not do anything on my page but I was a huge help with her three she did tonight. She said that I thought her a lot tonight. She has been doing this a lot longer then I have but I knew alot more then she did. I think watching all those craft shows have retained in my memory. :) I had soooooo much fun. She wants to meet once a week to do more.

Anyway keep the ideas coming. They are GREAT!

I've taken a couple of classes and attended a lot of crops with other scrapbookers. Why not get your group together to talk about what each person wants to learn? If most of them want to learn the basic's, as I suspect, then go ahead and plan to teach them about the tools they'll need, organization tips, and making a simple page or two. You can find a lot of info on line, as well as finding several good books to help you get started. As for supplies, look online and have them sent to you.

On the first class I wanted to take pictures of the group, each person with their guest and so on. I would then print out the pictures for each person. Then together we could create a page or pages. This would allow me to give them the basic and they wouldn't have to ruin their own picture for their first try at this. What do you think? Would that be fun?
