I saw these at Hobby Lobby last night. They look just like the ones CM sells. But they cost a LOT less. Has anyone tried one? Are they as nice as CM's?

Pam,
Walmart sometimes has them too, and walmart also sometimes carries the refill pages for them. Penny

Micheal's craft store carries them and they are a lot less than CM. I bought one and I like it just fine. I would also check Joanne's or any craft store in your area for them.

ER- not really time for that. It is a geo system, spray foam walls and 2" exterior foam and strapping. However the duct work I noticed is sealed with tape, which will fall off in a couple years anyway. There is no time for blower doors and things like that, wasn't even time for the paint to dry on the walls before the reveal! When you have less then 1 week to build a house, unfortunately some items have to be omitted. Again, the craftsmanship is quite good. Volunteers do a lot of work, but skilled professionals do most of it. I did notice some of the drywall mud was bad in spots and not sanded the greatest...but hey, for 4 hrs to do it in you have to cut them some slack. Trust me, this family would take a few non-smooth mud spots over their last house! The builder did take a couple liberties in the field and changed some stuff that was sort of disappointing. For example the dormers are not real anymore...they were in my plans. I even laid them out and sized the windows to make them as easy as possible and did not require girder trusses. They fall exactly between truss spacing, and all the had to do was put 1/2" gyp on each side of the truss and bam, dormer was done. But they went right over the vaulted ceiling with the wood flooring. oh well. Also I had 4" trim around the windows with 6" trim at the base, and 6" on the corners. That was to be painted white but they (show designers) decided to make it green. Here is a completed picture from the reveal yesterday.

Creative Memories vs Fiskars (or other cheaper brands)

I'm not a big CM fan. Their paper cutter is too small and doesn't cut the 12 by 12 pages. Mine also cuts a ragged edge from the start it never did cut well. Their circle and oval cutters are the best that I have ever found. Why anyone would spend mega bucks on things like their square punches is beyond me when it is so simple to take an ordinary cutter and cut a square. I love the Friskars type cutter because it is a cinch to make a frame using this type of cutter. Many of the girls at our local scrapbooking store started with the CM albums and are getting very bored with the white pages and end up covering them with the fancy papers. Their albums are expensive but the quality is better than some of the cheaper albums out there. The best albums I have found are from a company called Fraser-Grimm. It's a small company that I believe operates out of Windsor Ontario but my local scrapbooking store sells their albums. They are durably made and covered with fabric and they have quite a selection. I bought some special fabric and had them make me an individual album and they did a beautiful job. I'm not big on stickers. I make most of my own embellishments so I can't comment on those since I don't use them.

What type of album?

Okay so I cheat! I use a three ring binder and then after I have all the pages together in order (or at least I think they are in order till I find another box or tin of photos stashed away in the closet, or find pictures behind other pictures in picture frames. Hate that! LOL) then I put them in post bound albums. My other complaint about post bound albums is the pages don't always lay flat, I guess due to the many varing sizes of paper, that is supposedly the same size. Any clues on how to stop this, short of measuring each page? Most of the post bound albums though usually have much prettier covers, than the 3 ring binders, which is why I change into a post album when I am finished. I don't like the strap albums at all mostly due to the fact that I am brain dead when trying to figure out how to insert the pages. Penny

I wish we had a Hobby Lobby!! It sounds great!! Next time I make the trip to Michael's I will have to check out these other albums that you are describing. I really like the strap hinge types, but have only ever used the CM brand. They are expensive though!! YIKES!! The only good thing, is that they are also guaranteed(sp)

I have several of the albums that Hobby Lobby sells and I use them with CM pages if I happen to have them. I bought two of HL's baby albums, too. Looks exactly like the CM album baby album with the embossed baby shoes on the outside. CM consultant doesn't like it much when she sees the "contraband" products, but if she wants my $$$ for her crops than she deals with it.

I saw these at Michael's yesterday and they were $25. Isn't that the CM price? I honestly can't remember what I paid for mine from CM!!

I forgot to check the price of the replacement pages.

THe only reason I prefer to buy stuff from my CMC is because after we spend $250, we get a $25 g/c (which, I'm ashamed to admit, I got after only 8 months!! My husband would die if he knew I spent that much!). So I'm always working towards that goal. :)

I believe CM's albums are $35.00 if I'm not mistaken. Maybe a CM gal can correct this. The album I saw at Hobby Lobby was $20.00.
