Once in a great while. After I forget what a hassle it is to do blk and wht. You can get the film at Wal-Mart or Meijer or probably your local drugstore. I was always disappointed in it though. It takes a lot longer to get them developed because the lab gets so few. And my lab didn't do a very good job with the contrast. They were flat and washed out. Blk and wht would be great if I could develop them myself. Sidebar: I started my 1999 book this morning. I have done 9 pages so far. I love my pictures! They POP with color!

The only time I ever took black and white photos, I had them developed at Walmart and was not happy with the results. If I did it again, I would take them to a developer that has more experience/expertise with B&W photos. I do love the look of B&W photography, though.

That brownish look is achieved by having the photos developed in "sepia," I believe.

Heidi - I did the black and white photos once. I wanted to try it and had to take 24 black and white photos. I just didn't really photograph anything that really looked special with that film. I got the film and had it developed at The Film Center in State College. They did a very nice job with the developing, though. ( I assume you're from PSU from your email address!) - Patty

I see your handle, 7stars, so we shouldn't be so far from each other. Have you checked out the Scrapbook store by the Hills Plaza in State College? I was in 7th Heaven when they opened.

I can't wait to try taking photos of my sons and my nieces and nephews to see how they come out. I have never taken a black and white photo before. I may even try it this month when my color film is used up in my camera. I am so anxious to try this.

We took black and white pictures when my DH, Sis and I went to London and Paris a couple years ago. My sister had b & w film in her camera and we had color in ours. We basically just took b & w of the major landmarks--Big Ben, St. Paul's, Notre Dame, etc. We bought the film at Meijer's but we had the film developed at a local camera store. The pictures turned out great or so we thought. My sister-in-law who is an artist said they could have been developed better. We also took a couple pictures of my daughter to finish out the roll of film. I consider the b & w some of the best that we have taken of her.

I have used black and white film a lot lately. We've been buying the Kodak 400 35 mm black and white film that you can get at Wal-Mart. We've been taking mostly scenery pictures (tip...scenery looks much better on a semi-cloudy day) and have started taking a few of the kids. I'm really happy with the results...key is to be sure the light is right, and that you have a good camera. We have a Nikon with a zoom lens (forgive me I can't remember the model...we just bought it..LOL) and it takes really nice pictures.

I think I will probably do more black and whites just because I love the old-fashioned look they give my scrapbooks.

I have a question about red-eye on black and white. Obviously you don't get "red" eye, but if a flash is used, is there some sort of reflection in the eyes like you see in color film (which is the red eye)?

I have a friend who uses b&w all the time. I would like to try it but hate the though of having to take 24 pictures. I would love to see a disposable in b&w so I can alternate and take just a few to add in with the colors. Anyone know if something like this exists???

I took some really nice black and white photos with this film that they sell at Wal Mart. It is made by Kodak but you develope it just like colored film so it doesn't take forever. I think if you go to the Kodak web site the name is on there. I have read that some people aren't happy with it because it doesn't give a "true" b/w color it is more brown, but I really liked mine. Hope this helps.

I take my color negative and get them to develop it to a B&W print and then I photo tint it. The results have been great. I couple of times I have asked them to lighten it up more and they did it at no extra charge. I develop my film with anyone who uses Kodax and does matte finish. I find the pictures are a lot nicer with matte finsih. It takes about a week to return them to me.
There is a film that is B&W but can be developed at any color film developing place. I haven't used it but the person who told me about it loved the results. I think it is personal choice.

My daughter's wedding photos were sepia/white, color, soft-focus sepia & white & soft focus color. The sepia versus black/white makes for an old photo effect but being in my fifties & not à la mode-I find that it's silly to deliberatly do that to fresh, young, wholesome looking couple's faces! The blurry or soft-focus sepia-worse & can hardly see the people. The blurry or soft focus color-why bother-mystical, romantic perhaps. Give me good old-fashioned natural color. Looking at black & white modern movies, there's that harsh reality & Bogart effect-more dramatic however. But everyone does look older & harsher-no?
