I think I tossed the original literature that stated all these details. :( A big argument by the people who oppose this is that all this does is upgrade buildings, and apparently our test scores have rapidly been falling, so focusing on quality education over aesthetically pleasing buildings should be the priority, which I 100% agree with. I believe what they state may be out of date, however. They do state that voting the measure down allows our taxes to go down, while voting the measure in ensures it will not go down and in fact there is no guarantee it won't go up due to these bonds (but this could be based on one of the old recommendations that isn't the one actually on the referendum since the site is out of date), . I voted absentee in person because I was an election official at the Central Absentee Precinct on Election Day. If you're wondering whether absentee ballots are counted, I can assure you that in Fairfax County, Virginia, they are counted, independent of what the vote is in person. During the day, we open the ballots, which are one of three types: 1) paper (actually, heavy card stock) that can be fed through a scanner to count the votes 2) ballots which are pdf files emailed to the voter, who then prints out the ballot and cover envelope and mails the completed ballot and signed and the signature witnessed ballot cover and sends that back by post or courier (like Fed Ex) 3) Federal Write-in Absentee Ballots, which are ballots that may be used by people in remote locations, such as military in a war zone, or people who applied for a ballot at least 30 days before the election and had not received the absentee ballot in time. These ballots are on regular paper, and the voter has to write in the name of the candidate and office and any ballot issues that the voter is eligible to vote for. If they don't know the candidate's name, they can write in the political party of the candidate. This ballot is used by all states, which is why there are no candidate or ballot issues pre-printed on it. During the day, as we get a large pile of the card stock ballots, we feed them through the scanner. We don't know the actual count for each candidate or issue until all the ballots have been scanned. Ballots could potentially be received until 7 pm, so we can't get the final count of the votes cast on those ballots until no earlier than 7 pm. At 7 pm we start counting the rest of the absentee ballots by hand. This includes the email ballots that were printed from the pdf files (and they are all sorts of sizes), the Federal Write-in ballots, and the ballots on card stock that could not be fed through the scanner. In addition to these ballots, there are ballots that were cast on touch screen machines by people who voted absentee in person before election day. The votes on those machines are tabulated after the polls close. I had a VERY late night.

Our school had a junior-senior prom. It was a small school so I guess they needed two classes to fill the Elks Club ballroom. Don't remember my gown or date my junior year. I'd have to get out the yearbook--wherever it is. :0 My senior year I was dating a guy from the next town. I was very small and we had a terrible time finding a gown to fit. I don't know why my mother didn't make it. She always made our clothes. About a month before prom, mother and daddy went to Columbus, Ohio to visit my aunt and uncle and mother found the prettiest dress. It was a size 3 and she had to alter it. It was short, dusty rose organdy with spaghetti straps (nothing to hold up a topless gown). Across the bodice was a row if deep rose and dusty rose organdy flowers that could be removed (I kept them). I loved that dress! My date brought me a corsage of pink baby roses with babies breath that I pressed and kept for years. After the prom ended at midnight (a treat for all of us to be up that late back then), the Seniors had an all-night party. It was also at the Elks Club. We all changed into bermuda shorts, which were the new hot thing, and danced, played games and ate until about 5 when they served us breakfast. It was a lot of fun and emotional because we were graduating and sure we'd never see each other again. You know how emotional HS girls can be. A lot of kids in my class ended up back in R-ville. Nice little town to raise a family. It'll be 50 years next month since that prom night. Sure wish I was going to the reunion in June!

Yep when your polling place is your school you sort of have no other options. More so now than ever, since we have become very concerned with security in schools. I sure wish I could vote in the building/school where I work. No such luck I will take half hour getting there.
