Back door - adding blinds/curtain for privacy? (x-posted)
Comments (10)Plantation shutters!!! We had them on our kitchen door at our old house. They basically make a frame around your window, the shutters are hinged to the frame. In a situation with a smaller window like that, I just hinge the shutters on one side (as opposed to two panels which open in the middle.) This gives you the cleanest lines. There is no shaking or movement of the shutters, they can be completely closed for total privacy or opened all the way. It adds a lot of depth to your door window...I think a substantial touch. This pic is of one in my office, I don't have them on any doors in this house, but it would look just like this......See Morehelp with curtains for front door
Comments (13)Betsy- the ceiling is the original tin ceiling painted white by the PO. the house is around 100 years old but i haven't been able to confirm an exact date. Plantation shutters would be wonderful, but i'm not sure about within the budget. i will have to look into that. Sheers are another good option. i've also considered natural wood roman shades, but i think we want more privacy. currently, you have to walk by the front door to get to the only bathroom in the house from the bedrooms. since we've moved in, i have made these trips in the dark to avoid being on display. we are in the process of putting a bathroom in upstairs, so maybe my privacy concerns will dissipate with that. The door and windows are also original to the house and around 100 years old. wavy glass and all. i dont know if they could handle etching but i will look into the wallpaper....See MoreFront Door Color and Privacy
Comments (14)Today we had our home inspection and this is a close-up of the front door. Bellburgmaggie, you mentioned green and red and there is a mosaic tile piece in the foyer that has both colors in it! Gosh! I wish I took a photo! I was considering those as possibilities too. Because I live in Florida, I hope to create a vibrant warm interior that still feels fresh and spring/summer/sometimes fall-ish interior....See MorePrivacy film for front door glass
Comments (11)Anna yes, IF there is a light source inside the house. I have large dining room windows that can be seen through the side light if you place your face right up to it, but if the dining room curtains are shut you cannot see in. At night, the mirror effect reverses so you need something for privacy. My front window doesn't have another window behind it, and people cannot see in even with their face pressed against the glass....if my lights are off. During the day, only a tiny bit of my chandelier shows through the film (when on) , but nothing else of the room shows. I really love this film BUT it doesn't let any sun rays through that house plants need, so don't plan on growing any sun loving plants by these windows....See MoreOlychick
