White kitchen with non shaker cabinets?

"Every" kitchen with white/creamy cabinets that I see seems to have a cabinet door style that is very simple.

My DH would like a pearl colored cabinet with a little more detail. However, the pictures I see of a more detailed white/creamy cabinet seem to "all" have a glaze on them.

Just wondering, is it just my imgination? the trend right now? or is that the style that looks best?

Ordered sample doors today so we'll see how they look.

I have a white kitchen with non shaker cabinets-that style isn't my favorite. The name of my cabinet style is 'Traditional'...pretty self explanatory! Here are some pictures.

I think that the more you worry about trends, the more likely you are to find your otherwise great kitchen obsolete when the designers are promoting other styles.

Shaker is a classic style that happens to be particularly popular right now, but if your decision-making team has a taste for something else, that is great too.

For a budget redo, I bought a set of cabinets from craigslist whose quality was good but whose style I am not crazy about. Nonetheless, after they were painted white, I think they will be fine for the foreseeable future.

Check cabinet vendor sites to see various door styles in various finishes, then go with what you like. Cheers.

My first project with glass tile involved my removing two columns of mortared mosaic glass squares because I didn't like the angle of my tile cuts. In the process of pulling it down I cut myself (no big surprise). What was a bit of a surprise was the surgery I needed two months later to remove a shard of glass lodged on the tendon of the middle finger of my right hand. It could have severed that tendon at any time, which would, of course, have been disastrous. He needs a wet saw, a diamond blade for it, personal protective equipment (I wore goggles, boots, gloves, but my gloves weren't leather) and health insurance! Regarding the tile, seeing all the samples together, Tusk has the right undertones, and would be my choice. You can choose anything you like, of course, but I don't think Gardenia is the right one. I am partial to the glazed thin brick and show it below in Alcatraz and Glacier. I totally get it if you feel you already have enough brick! But this may be a better color family for you.

teach2015: We are in NJ and used http://www.weaverscustomwoodworking.com/index.html - they are out near the Dutch Wonderland theme park, but he has a pretty wide delivery area - I wouldn't be surprised if he comes to the Philly suburbs. We've had our cabinets for just about 2yrs and they've held up beautifully (but ours are stained wood, not painted). Pricing was excellent, the experience was excellent, the installation was flawless, and build quality is superb.

White is a color. Not a trend, not a classic. Don't believe me? Here are four white kitchens -- two are "outdated" and two are "trendy". Not too many years ago that first kitchen was the height of fashion -- in a decade or two, the two kitchens on the right will appear just as "dated" as that first kitchen does. Today's trend is not white; rather, today's trend is the combination of white inset shaker cabinets paired with white countertops and plain subway backsplashes. It's not the color white that'll look "outdated" in the future -- it's the details /the combination of today's trendy details. So go with white, or go with stained wood -- but avoid choosing "today's package", today's trend. Choose your own details, put in something that makes it your own.

I'm sure you have already done this, but it you browse "traditional kitchens" on the Houzz site you will find dozens and dozens of beautiful white kitchens that are not shaker. I love shaker cabinets, but white kitchens look beautiful with raised panel cabinets too!

honorbiltkit! what a great kitchen full of personality! I too love the shaker style, but I'm updating my 90's kitchen and keeping my white raised panel cabs. Why not reuse what we have (or with craigslist, what OTHERS have).

By the way, tell me about your subway tiles and grout color. I gotta know.

kmmh - Go with the cabinet style that you like so you want regret it later. My traditional raised panel is still standing the test of time. BUT the shaker style is classic and will look great for years also.

honorbiltkit-You're right about following trends-I need to keep it in mind, and I love the way your cabinets look.

slightly OT. runninginplace : I love your sink wall. It is beautiful.
I think the white shaker is the trend. IF you look up traditional kitchens, rather than transitional you will find some white kitchens with slightly more detailed cabinets.

I love the clean lines of a white shaker kitchen, but realized it would out of place in my in my little colonial house. The minute that the first cabinet was installed, I knew I had made the right choice with the traditional raised panel doors.

Another example of non-glazed white/creamy raised panel here. I might have gone with glazed cabinets but my wife was dead set against it.

I wouldn't worry too much about trends, be sure to choose whatever best suits your personal style.
