T1-11 Wood Siding Questions

Hello:

Have a few questions regarding some repairs on the T1-11 wood siding that's on my house, please:

Guess repairs are (only ?) made by replacing complete 4 x 8 foot sections.

Or, for areas that are damaged, and need replacement:

Is it practical, or ever done, where a narrow, perhaps a foot wide, strip is replaced by ripping from a new panel, or is it always that a complete 4x8 foot section is always used for any type of replacemnent or repai

b. Does one caulk or otherwise seal the vertical 8 foot edges where they abut the neighboring panel ?

If so, how ?

c. Prior to painting, should the surface be primed ?

Is it obtainable already primed ?

If not, what type and brand of primer should i use ?

d. Are their different "quality" levels, or is the stuff HD sells pretty much it ? 5/8 thick the standard ?

This stuff still used pretty much ?

Really don't like this siding. Would you just rip it all off and go with the typical clapboards, or Hardiboard, or put another layer of new T1-11 over it, or ... ?

New siding of a different type sure sound expensive, though!

Thanks,

Bob
