This kitchen takes the cake!

A friend sent me this photo. I was enjoying looking at the details when I realized this kitchen is a cake! LOL!

I was looking forward to posting pictures of our recently finished kitchen, as I found many ideas in the FKB and messages. I wish the budget kichens thread had started sooner! :) But I guess this sweet little kitchen gets posted first. Enjoy.

I love it! Amazing amount of detail! Although it reminds me a little of the models made by that serial killer on CSI.

I got a fancy cake stand as decor. It has a frog. It looks fine bare. You can put anything on your white cake stand to make it decorative. Fruit, of course, is colorful, but it's too warm here for leaving fruit out, and it might be there too. You can look around your house for different, interesting things to fill it with, though. How about a pocket dolly tea party? A pyramid of those flat marbles you put in vases? A bonbon box. A pretty tea can. A shallow dish with floating flowers. A grouping of salt and pepper shakers lined up like toy soldiers. Sugar keeps. If you think it would look best as a cake, get a cake shaped round of styrofoam at the crafts store and frost it. Really! Make rosettes and textures and whatever you can make pretty. It'll last a long time. Don't do it if you have ants or another bug problem, but in general, it should dry out fast and keep for a long time.

I was looking at the dining room and thinking it's really tacky. Then I realized I have the exact same chairs! I can say they look much more understated in my humble abode. First I read the rental fee wrong and thought it was $600k/YEAR (and I thought that was crazy.) I think my brain auto-corrected to prevent me from spewing my coffee.

I imagine that when all the fresh flowers and fruits and vegetables and all are brought in for preparing for a large gathering, there is plenty of color. Afterwards, it's easy to clean up: everything goes. The pied-a-terre may not ever even be occupied by the owner, or perhaps used as a "hotel" where they never cook or do chores, just entertain or hold events. I saw in....Some Robb publication...a London p-a-t for a "wealthy financier and investor and his former supermodel wife and their two children". A 3,000-square-foot pied-a-terre!

Maybe dumb question but are the fixtures on top of the cake edible? Are they dollhouse miniatures? My mother would have loved this cake being that she was a dollhouse enthusiast who built 6 dollhouses and made miniature furniture and linens. Isn't it amazing how talented people can be!

I don't know about that particular cake, but mostly the people who do these scenic cakes use sugarwork for the ornaments. I was at our local county fair a few weeks ago and they had a number of cakes with little vegetable gardens on them, etc., but not as well done as bojideb's photo.

Hard to pick out which detail is my favorite - what looks like in-cabinet lighting? The dishes on the shelf over the sink? The chair cushions? I know - I'll go for the "cake within a cake" on the kitchen table!
