Kat Korner no longer available?

I hope it is o.k. to ask this question on this forum. I usually hang out at the KT. Please tell me if I have overstepped. I notice that you do refer each other to websites so that is why I am asking here. I just got an email from a friend who has been trying to access MSN Groups' "Kat Korner" but gets a notice that it has been deleted or no longer available. I tried it just to see what she is talking about and got the same. Anyone use Kat Korner or have any info? Thanks.

Is this the message you get? Sounds like she is in the process of moving her website.

"I have recently registered this domain name, and rather than just transferring my old (and badly in need of updating) pages here, I will be making a new site, incorporating parts of my old site. Unfortunately, that could take awhile.

Please do check back from time to time. In the meantime, here is a page to see my kitty, and here are some other links which eventually will be organized into this site."

No, Judy. We get this message:

Hmmm, We Can't Find that Page...
The page you're looking for might have been moved or deleted. Or, perhaps the Web address is misspelled?

Like others, my masdies struggle this time of year. My grow room can hit upper 80's to low 90's if it is really hot outside and I keep all of the lights cranking all day. We're currently hitting our first really hot spells of this summer and I have started turning off some of the hotter lights at noon on brutally hot days (+85F), I figure they'd do better with a little less light than the 90+ temps. FWIW: I grow all of my masdies in fine bark in clay pots, which are then put inside of larger clay pots. I then stuff spagh in between the 2 pots and soak the spagh 2x a week and mist the outer pots and root zones once a day, this really seems to help keep the roots much cooler in my environment. Brooke, I have a Angle Tang that is 6-7 years old that has at least 100 leaves and has had as many as 15-20 blooming spikes at a time. It is the ugliest plant; black tipped leaves, half dead leaves, etc... but it really puts on a nice flower show throughout the year, I'd be ashamed to take a picture ;-) My 4-5 others masies aren't quite as bad and my tovernasis (sp?) doesn't show much sign of the fert burn that the others exhibit. I'd reckon' it probably depends on the particular variety as far as how well/much they can take fert??? Bob

Restoring Wooden Structures
Q

BYG- No, I don't think we are posting opposing views at all. Rather it is that when building with wood there actually are a number of considerations to mull over. For instance, using something to cover up the stirrups is common, when the added on part doesn't get in the way of the rest of the building and when it looks appropriate, though I haven't seen the use of the plastic column bases that Michelle suggests. Cost is one issue. Replacement is of course a large cost to begin with and so should be considered from the point of view of the future as well as the present.. As has been brought forth, I think, the issue of chemically treated lumber is not as simple as it would seem on the surface. The one environmentally friendly process is probably not easily accessible, the brands of treated wood you mention are also not always available but at least one can learn how to pick and choose the "good" pieces. There are also a growing number of premade fencing panels that are cheap and can be used, but like the description of a weed they can easily be like a plant out of place. Metal is another interesting material with which to replace wood. It's cost can be about the same as a presentable wood if you use creative designs. Stone may give back a sense of an older time, but the interesting thing about stone is the new methods of gluing and cutting. There is even one product of stone flooring cut just like boards. And cement isn't just cement anymore. I'm surprised that the new combos of recycled plastic and wood dust haven't' been mentioned. Though I made a deck and a planter box.. and probably only once. Regarding restoration of an old structure (rather than just fixing something) an old building often used old growth timber which looks and acts (esp with regard to duration) very differently from the wood we have today. In come cases the wood is not even available any more. Regarding woods like juniper, locust and some other local woods, it may mean that you need to mill your own wood, and there are a growing number of portable saw mill people these days. - A

Window Casing availability

Thought I would post an update of my failed attempts. : ) I applied Soy Gel stripper to a sample piece and found that I seem to need at least three applications, maybe four, and some sanding after that. I then tried the heat gun followed by Soy Gel and had much better results. Flat casing went pretty quickly but the detailed woodwork takes much longer. After much cursing and a sticky mess I took a good long look at the wood I am saving. It is nice, probably some type of pine / fir but ultimately not nice enough to save it. When I estimated the length of time I would need to finish even a couple of door and window casings I realized it was just too much. Buying new wood will cost a bit but time is valuable too. I did learn from the process. If I had truly nice woodwork I wanted to save I would use the heat gun again followed by Soy Gel. I would also entertain using the silent paint stripper. If I were unsure what I had I would first finish one piece and give it a good long look before attempting a whole room. The replacement crown molding on top of the windows will differ from the rest of the house but not so much I think anyone will notice. I will also have to round over the poplar replacement casing myself but that is still much quicker than stripping. On the bright side I also learned that many years ago nails must have been free. However it must have been a crime to possess them so carpenters must have felt the need to hide them in the woodwork.. I was able to figure this out because whoever did the finish work in my room must have been in that situation and felt the need to put about 20 nails for each four feet of trim. I donÂt know what they thought was going to happen to those boards but they made sure they were not going to fall off. Due to all the nails, one area did suffer some plaster damage when I was removing the trim. I see there are already postings on plaster and lathe repair. I will be reading all about that soon! Fred

I am familiar with the area and recently bought a home not terribly far away (not in the Woodlands and we have acreage so not comparable). That said, I think your price is too high just looking at the other houses available in the area. Whether an offer is lowball or not doesn't have much to do with how much you paid for it. We bought a house within 20 minutes or so from your house and the sellers sold it us for less than they paid for it 4 years ago. In fact, last year we sold a house that we bought in 2006 and we sold it for less than we paid for it. Yes, the Woodlands is a nice area but there are a lot of homes available in the Woodlands and quite a few of them back up to a greenbelt, are on a cul-de-sac and are landscaped and have granite, etc. Now aside from the price, you need to improve your pictures. You have 14 and I think you can have 32. I would put up a lot more pictures. I would want to see pics of the secondary bedrooms and maybe secondary bathroom, even the utility room if you have one. On your listing you show a 11x15 extra room. What is that? I would put a picture of it (or is that the sitting room attached to the master). Also put captions on the pictures. On picture 2 I don't know what that room is. Is it a study (desk is very small) or what? Picture 3 - I guess this is the dining room. Frankly with the half walls and the dining table that takes up so much space the room looks really small. Also the white is overwhelming. Just not a flattering picture. Pictures 4-6 -- great kitchen and breakfast room but the pictures are awful. They are too dark. Picture 7 - I guess this is the living room? Or is this the den? I would take a picture of each, but you only have a picture of one of them (I assume that the den and the study are different rooms. If they aren't the listing needs to be corrected). Room looks small in the pics. Pic 8 - I guess this is the master bedroom with a sitting area? Again, put captions on. The angle for the master bedroom doesn't show much. Don't try to show the master and the sitting room in one picture -- just makes the room look small. I want to see more of the master bedroom. Pic 9 - Looks bluish. Also angle of the pic doesn't do much for me. Pic 10 -- OK but I would take trash can out and retake the pic. Pic 11 and 12 -- These just serve to make your yard look really small. Pic 13 - Fairly nice but I would vary the angle a bit so you see more of the spa and less of the plant. Pic 14 - blurry

When I rechecked that's what I got too. I had typed in katkorner.com for the message I got instead of being part of an msn group.
Guess I can't help you. Maybe someone else will be along to help you out.
Don't hesitate to ask something here. If we can't help you we will tell you or maybe get you going in the right direction!

I joined the group PSP lost and found group that lets you inquire and find out about groups that have been deleted or closed. There are quite a few comments on KatKorner, here are a few--

No hon, sorry to say that Kat Korner is now closed. There was a sitituation that we attempted to work out, but I'm sorry to say that over 800 plus members will be left hanging. I apologize for that, but it was not my choosing to do it this way. Please do not ask what happened - this is the sad ending to a beautiful site. I only wish that the members could have been told of it's closing prior to it's happening.

Please let anyone that may be wondering or any members that you are in contact with know what has happened. I'm sorry there is no easier way to do things.

Msn didnt delete the group Delmar.... Kat deleted it..

This is a good group, no requirements, just a way to find out about missing groups.

Thanks so much for the info, last Sunday I received an e-mail, which I usually do every Sunday saying whats new at Kats Korner. I went to check in and got the same message as above (Hmmm, We Can't Find that Page...

I just thought I had been dropped because I haven't checked in for a couple of weeks. So that clears that up.
