One of the things that these sites (or the printed catalogues put out by these companies) are good for is identifying the specific names and specifications of tools you may be in need of. I read waltons homesteading site with interest, my interest peaked even more when it was suggested that those days are no more? well for the most part anyhow. I say this because I am in fact hand digging my water well just as our forefathers had done, yes its a lot of work and because I am 30 miles from town finding help is hard to find these days. I hope to be completed by the end of summer 2005.

Sorry thefarmMe. I have to disagree with your statment that Homesteading Today being a "very fine website". Joining was no problem for me. However, attempting to particpate in their forums has proven to be an exercise in frustration. The site appears to be a nice set up and is very attractive. However, that's as far as it goes. There's an old saying that seems to be applicable here...pretty is as pretty does... After registering, I received the confirmation email and followed their instructions "to the letter". However, the website thwarts every attempt I make to particpate. It appears I have not been "approved" yet and the adminstrators have not responded to my queries. Well, I know that I'm a farmer and I have plenty of past experience to back up that statement. I have nothing to prove and certainly don't need anyone's approval so I can't be bothered with the Homesteading Today website. I believe the Homesteading Today website is not worth my time. It is definitely NOT user friendly and the adminstrators don't appear to be in any hurry to change the way they manage the website. Perhaps you or other Homesteading Today members that belong to our forum could contact those adminstrators and tell them about the "negative press" their getting. I got it at Portland Nursery on Stark in (obviously) Portland... when I called they said they had one blue and one white, and while I was poking around I found two more blues in their display area. I bought all three blues and may have depleted their supply of that color. They do have a second store and it's possible they have it there. According to their web site, Joy Creek has it (www.joycreek.com), near Scappoose... they do mail order if you can't find a source closer to you. It's a charmer and I'm really glad I found it.
