Carol, The meal sounds yummy. We'll be having a similar meal tonight if I finish jellying in time. Otherwise, we'll have fast food or hot dogs or something. I get exactly the opposite performance....PL types do really well for me, performing better in a dry year (which I have plenty of) though than in a wet year. In the kind of climate I have, the PL types seem to resist disease very well. Your climate and mine are worlds apart most years though. Currently we're only 96 degrees with a heat index of 101 and relative humidity of 37. Our dewpoint is very low today and our relative greenness is 58%, which sounds awful to me. We're having a few grassfires today, which means one thing......it is summertime. I finished (finally!) processing all the plums from Tree #1 (130 lbs.). I celebrated by picking peaches from Tree #4 (61 lbs. so far from that tree) and am going to freeze a lot of them this afternoon, and make jam from some of them. Then, after I finish that, I still have 20 gallons of plums from tree #2. I picked almost all them at breaker stage and they ripen slowly, so I probably have 2 to 3 more days to process the ripe ones from that batch daily. Tree #3 is a native Mexican plum. I only pick them if the cultivated plums didn't set a crop, so I am leaving all of this years plums from Tree #3 for the wildlife. What does all this mean? I'm still drowning in peaches and plums! I need to take a break this evening and pick tomatoes as I noticed a lot more at breaker stage this morning. I just picked 15 lbs. yesterday. It amazes me how they all start breaking color at once. I thought I wouldn't be making salsa this week, but it is looking like maybe I'll be making some on Sat. or Sun. The plants that had leaf curl still have it, but most don't. It is worse on the plants in Maddie's garden, but they're on the west side of the potting shed and get reflected heat off the shed. The beans I planted to cover the west wall are climbing pretty high, so I hope that cuts the reflected heat. After I've been outside for about 10 minutes, I start feeling the heat stress and my leaves start curling too. Dawn

wonder if the black matting is cooking them on 90 degree days ... have you used this product before???? its not only super heating the soil .... which keeps it hot deep into the night .. it also reduces a recovery period ... and may be why.. lower limbs are more affected ... and the hole is so small.. i wonder if water is getting to the plant efficiently .... i dont watch video of inanimate objects... lol ... it is interesting how you labeled the plants on the black stuff ... ken

Same issue with a couple of my toms. Cannot figure out what it is. Any ideas?

Steve and I both would prune a significant amount of the tree's less valued branches so that the reduced root structure's water/nutrient uptake would match up better with the amount of upper growth still on the trunk. For me, since I did not see how much of the original root structure got whacked off, I would prune away at least half of the upper branches. When I uproot and replant trees, I always let the uprooted tree's root system sit submerged in a pool/pond/container of water that has a good amount of Super Thrive mixed in and let it soak for 1 to 2 days before replanting the tree. I prune the appropriate amount of branches prior to the soaking so that the whole tree in it's chopped up form will be fully hydrated and fueled up with life sustaining nutrients as it goes through the trauma. I am sure that using other root stimulators can be helpful also. Winter sure is a better time to do this...... when possible. If you choose to leave the entire branch structure unpruned, it is possible that the tree will more easily dry up and die. Stated differently, if a family's income got whacked off by 50%, the family would no longer be able to spend what they used to, so spending practices would need to be reduced by 50% to match up with the revised income.
