Is there an easier way?

Have you ever had to search for a font by opening up each one to see it?

I decided to make a file showing what each looked like for me to find and WOWIE, it takes forever to do it this way.

Here is an example of what I started and had to come up for air! :)

Any of you have an easier way?

You're braver than me. I had a font viewer before I reloaded my computer and I don't have that back on here yet.

Sheila: I do my peach thinning in several stages, let's say about three. Each time, I remove the smaller, slower-developing peaches, and leave the larger ones. Any that have been damaged by insects, or show signs of mildew, have to come off no matter what size they are. If you properly thin your peaches, they will not experience a "June drop", since you will already have removed the peaches that would have dropped. Final thinning should leave the peaches about 6-8 inches apart, but these numbers are not cast in stone, and you should use your judgment about what each twig or branch can support, depending on its size and vigor. Bear in mind that a fully-developed peach can weight 3/4 pound or more. I have had some large peaches reach a full pound each. I would estimate that, at final thinning, 95% of the peaches on the tree have been removed, but those that are left are beautiful. Why are you collecting your thinned peaches in a shopping bag? Small thinned peaches carry no insect pests or pathogens, and may be safely allowed to fall to earth. After a few weeks they will be gone. When I thin a peach tree, the ground under the tree is covered with little peaches. Eliminating the collection step might improve your thinning efficiency. I have been down the teenager road (a few years ago), and hate those piles of dirty clothes. But enforced thinning is likely to lead to poor results. See how the teenagers react when you produce some really beautiful peaches. They might be inspired. And if you cannot comfortably reach all the peaches on your tree to thin, prune it down right now. I prune all the time as I thin to open up the tree and ensure that each peach is exposed to sunlight. That's what makes them big and sweet. Now is not the time to ease up on your spraying, using an effective insecticide such as permethrin. I also use fungicides to fight peach scab and mildew. Plum curculio is very active right now, and oriental fruit moth may also be present, which will ruin your peaches. By the end of June you may be able to ease up or stop spraying entirely, after the peaches are half-grown and the skins are tougher and less attractive to insects. Don Yellman, Great Falls, VA

Easier way tp protect young mango trees ?

Hi jofas - I wish that I could say that there is an easier way. That is my quest too. With the thought of a harsh winter ahead, I want to come up with something that is quick to set up such as a permanent winter "roof" so the side could be added quickly. My semi-dwarf mango is already 10' tall. It's too tall for me now. My husband has to help me. I am much colder than you are so I have to use plastic to hold in the heat. I guess this is the price we have to pay for planting such trees so far north. Best of luck. Christine

Pileated woodpeckers support themselves with their tails. So, he's having to reach around his back to get to the suet. They sell suet feeders mounted on wooden paddles that support the pileated. I used to have a pair who visited my feeders in Missouri. Then, one year, they disappeared. Haven't attracted any to my Indiana bird feeding set up.

Easier way to burst up concrete?

You should really look into getting a rotary hammer. They are quite slick to have. My wife rolled her eyes at the price of them but they go through concrete like a knife through butter. I have the Bosch Bulldog. You will not fear concrete with this tool. Hammer drills are worthless in my opinion, rotary hammer is what you need. I would recommend renting a small rotary hammer and an SDS drill bit by the hour and just drill holes all the way around where you want to work and drill a path of two lines down the middle so you can break the block in half with a sledge and have enough room to pry the concrete out. Wear eye and ear protection. Return rentals once you are done, should only take a half hour to break up what you need. This wont be expensive and will be the easiest way. But, if you want to do this the hard way, as suggested before use a circular saw with a masonry blade and cut the floor where you want to break it up. Caution: lots of dust, concrete dust is real bad stuff, wear good breathing protection and have a shop vac sucking dust and/or run a hose to where your working to make it a wet saw. Plug extension cord for circular saw into GFCI outlet if using wet saw method. Then use standard chisel and sledgehammer.

Free&Easy Fonts Viewer has its limitations, though: if you have a collection of fonts which are located in a different folder from the system fonts, you won't be able to browse through them using this tool.

The fonts I have are in a different folder so that will not work for me.

I use Xfonter. It will show the fonts in any directory. I browse it then open the font I want then open PSP or whatever program I want to use the fonts in.

It works well.

Urlee, the font viewer I use isn't free but I've found it to be worth the $35 I paid for it, to me, anyway. It does have a free trial period. You can check it out at the link below.

It has 8 different ways to print font samples, 80 per page, 40, 20, 6 and 4 different 1 per page setups (the last 2 are Character set with key code and Keyboard layout).

One thing I really like is the icon in the system tray where I can access folders of uninstalled fonts to make them available for use in programs. Couple of clicks and all my Christmas fonts are available to use in PSP.

I don't use nearly all the features it has but I really like the ones I do use. I need to get into it and get my fonts better organized. I keep thinking I'll print off 1 or 2 pages at a time and build my font reference binder but haven't done it yet.

Also, if you just want to see what the fonts look like in PSP you can create your text with the text tool, make sure the text is selected in the dialog box, click in the font selection box on the Tool Options ribbon and use the arrow keys to go thru the list. The text changes to each font as you move thru the list, just make sure the dialog box is out of the way so you can see the text in the image. Works in 8, 9 & X. In 7 the sample text (next to the font size) within the dialog box changes, not as good as seeing the text in the image change but better than nothing.

Yep, a registration key to register the download for continued use. No disk. Which reminds me, have I burned the program to CD? Gotta check.

By the time I get ALL my fonts printed out, I'd probably have to ship it by freight. LOL

If you're fast, maybe you can get all yours printed out before the trial expires.

I downloaded "The Font Thing" program (free) a year or two ago and it's great. I forget where I downloaded from but I'll check my bookmarks. When you open the program, your font file list opens on the left side and you can view each font just by going down the list. Much faster than opening the file folders one by one.

Jill, I just downloaded the font program you listed. I sure hope I can figure out how to use it...Thanks
I definitely get tired of looking through all of the fonts when I do something...which of course right now is "nothing" but soon..I hope.

Hi Bev,

If you have your extra fonts sorted into folders by type you can view only the fonts in one (or more) folders. Really helps when you know what kind of font you want, just not sure exactly which one. You can see all of one type together.

Another tip, you can change the sample text that displays with the Options button. Makes it easy to see how your words will look in each font.

If you use the Font Groups in Typograf (Font Management button) you can have an icon in the system tray which lets you activate and deactivate groups of fonts with a click, don't even have to open Typograf. If I want to use a fat font I can activate the Fat font group and Presto! all the fat fonts I put in that group show up in PSP's font list. Another click to deactivate that group.

Some nifty stuff in this program.

I have a question on this program..When I look at some of the fonts, there are some that are repeated 2 or 3 times. Can I delete them, or will that cause a problem.
