best way to fill in old strike plate holes in jambs?
Comments (6)Minwax high operformance wood filler if the woodwork is painted. Larger holes can have pieces of wood embedded in the filler to save on filler (it is pretty expensive). There is no shrinkage and the material sets in less than 30 minutes. If you catch it while it has started to set but is not fully hardened it is easier to shave excess off with a chisel, then sand after it fully hardens. The wrost mess I had tyo repair inthe past few years was on old house with wide door caseing that had rim locks in every room. The molding had been chieled badly to accept the strikes of the rim locks. I went through a couple cans of Minwax filling in and then carving to match the molding profile. There were a number of double hung window muntins also badly damaged by moving the window with the lock sticking out. Fill, carve, and sand to repair....See MoreFill and stain cabinet hardware holes
Comments (2)The only way I have ever been able to fill holes and match(as close as possible) was to use wooden plugs made with the same wood and experiment with dyes/stains/colored markers(made for matching wood) until I got the grain pattern close and the color close. There are plug cutters made to use to make plugs from wood. They only work from one side, however....See MoreNeed Advice on how to Fill holes from new Stove.
Comments (11)Re the gap at the back: First, I don't think a 1" gap between the back of the stove and the wall is excessive; however, check where the oven door falls. I believe the box of the oven minus the door should be flush with the cabinets and the door should be proud (sticking out). If your stove sticks out more than that, you may have a problem at the back. When our previous house was built in 1972 the gas line to the stove was placed so that it fell about half-way down the stove. When we bought a new stove eventually, that line was in the wrong spot for newer stoves. The newer ones have a recess towards the bottom of the unit. We had to have the gas line moved down to prevent the whole stove from sticking out 2-3" from the wall. Last thought: your stove seems to be quite a bit higher than the counters. Can you make it level with the countertops by adjusting the feet?...See MoreHandle Free Cabinets ...can I paint, stain, fill the holes?
Comments (5)You can’t get rid of the indentations. And yes, it will cost a tidy sum to get those properly painted. Honestly, I don’t dislike them. I really like your floor and your countertop. I think what is slightly dating the kitchen is the dark mosaic backsplash. I would also remove that piece of wood that serves as a valance over the kitchen window. Gives a dark eyebrows look to a pretty window. On the whole, a very nice kitchen. if you really do want rid of the oak and want cream, and if the cabinets are of good quality, a possible solution might be to order new doors and drawer fronts from a place like Conestoga. That way you’re only painting the face frames, and you’re getting rid of the indentations. I have never done it, but others here have expertise in doing it. Good luck!...See Morelagatella
