If you are really bent on killing them, any kind of wasp spray would do the job. Is that the whole nest? For the most part if you don't disturb them they won't bother you. I've had them inside my shed and when I've opened the door, one might fly down but I've never been stung, and they are beneficial. I'd also like to mention that many people think they are allergic to bee stings because they swell up. Swelling from a sting is not an allergic reaction it's a normal reaction. @Aidan Creekmore yes it's that last picture... I think your sixth. Landed right in front of me and just sat there staring at me on the deck. I quitely got up and went into the house though I wanted to run and screen just like that 10 year old post. Sprayed cutter waited. It left because my bird reflector tape moved so I am back out on the deck nervous trying to enjoy the sun here in Georgia. Lol. Should I worry?

Bees generally provide very little pollination of vegetables in the garden. They are much more important for Fruit Trees, so you need to be careful with fruit trees when fruit trees are in bloom. But not necessarily careful with bees around most vegetables. This late in the year, the activity of any honeybees in your vegetable garden should be absolutely minimal. In addition, Tomatoes, and probably most garden vegetables, are self fertile. This means they don't need outside pollination at all. Once in a while you will see honeybees working on things like Squash or Pumpkin blossoms. Or coming into the garden for water (if water is otherwise in short supply in your area), but mostly honeybees should not be common in the garden. If you are still concerned about possibly hurting honeybees, then look up pictures of honeybees and compare them to pictures of wasps and hornets. Most (but not ALL) honeybees have the classical banded pattern on their abdomen, and a few wasps have a similar pattern. But other than that, I don't think they look at all similar. Honeybees are more rounded and less aggressive looking. Anyone who knows them will be able to tell you instantly whether something is a honeybee or a wasp/hornet. So, once you familiarize yourself with the difference, look to see if there are ANY honeybees visiting your garden. Quite unlikely to find honeybees in home gardens at this time of year. If there are none, then go for it. Kill the wasps. They reproduce like crazy anyway, and you will need to fight them year after year. Probably best to start early in the season, when their colonies are weak, and keep it up all summer and fall.

In regards to all I have read on here, I have hornet problems too. I am very familiar with yellow jackets, bald-faced hornets, honeybees, bumble bees, but the kind I have are what a lot of people call "bull hornets" which are really European hornets introduced to the US in what year I can't remember. A lot of people refer to them as Japanese hornets which is another name for the Asian hornet, which so far hasn't been introduced here yet..TG.. because they are bad news. Their venom is very potent and they are fairly well agressive and kill 20-40 people in Japan per year. They get to about 2" long as compared to the European kind that are around 1 1/4" long. The Euro kind are not near as agressive, but do have the capability of stinging if their nest is disturbed, but their sting is far less than the Asian "Jap" hornet. I have them here at my place and haven't been stung yet though I've had them dive at me and just go on. They usually build their nest in the crack of a tree somewheres, but not always and are hard to eliminate less you know where their nest is in which case conventional methods will work. They wander and unlike most bees don't go to bed when it gets dark because they fly at night also and light attracts them...I know. Like I said, they are not deadly like the Asian kind and not really very agressive but can be a pain in the butt buzzing around you and wondering if they will or not. I am Very familiar with these and just live with them for now and haven't found a good solution to get rid of them till I find where they nest at. They buzz around at night while we're cooking out and I just go on about my business and have had them gather at the door of my trailer in the woods here and wait till I open the door to get in sometimes...they don't scare me all that bad but don't want to go to bed with one of them in the house.
