Cheap massage!

I love hour long, full-body massages, but can no longer afford the fat fees charged by licensed therapists. My chiropractor told me about a medical career school where massage therapy students offer massages for $10. A half-hour in the massage chair (where you remain fully dressed) is only $3.

I've had two massages, and enjoyed the experiences. The girls were professional and considerate, the room was warm, and the music was soothing. I've had expensive massages that weren't nearly as satisfying. Tips were encouraged, and I gave $5. (My chiropractor gives $10.) Afterwards I was asked to fill out a form evaluating the student, who must give 27 massages before graduation.

My DS's friend was doing that( a guy). It was a bit uncomfortable but he is wonderful. At my age I rarely get embarassed anymore. It was free, it was at his parents home and they have a table. He has since graduated and now works where they charge $60 so my massage days are over. the school is not close enough to be convenient but I agree it's a great way to feel good cheap!

I've been very happy with my Moen. It has a bunch of "massage" settings (most of which I've never used) but it's stood up to being dropped against the tile a few times and hasn't turned odd colors over the six years I've had it. It's got those rubber nozzles which help prevent hard water from scaling up the head. It does not have a bar on which you can fix the head at any height, but I don't think you'll get one of those for anywhere near $50. I bought mine at a Goodwill (crushed box but otherwise obviously brand new), but a quick peek at Lowe's Web site shows that you could get something like it in your price range.

The fact is laws of physics cannot be changed, and when you blow hot air into water it will cool it down no matter what brand of tub it is. Now Bain Ultra was the original air tub, their service is top notch, their parts and materials are top notch, and their design has only the bather in mind. Kohler is not a bad alternative, but all things being equal Bain Ultra all the way. Hope this helps.

FYI, Oxygen is damaging to skin and other cells of the body. The fact that your body can use it to convert into energy is because oxygen gas (in the air) forms high energy chemical bonds, which your metabolism breaks and then traps the energy. Oxygen damages DNA, fatty acids (ie skin membranes) and other cells in your body. That's why ANTI-oxidants are good for you - Vitamin C, E etc neutralize oxidants when applied externally or taken internally. I find it really hilarious that people think increasing oxygen will make you look younger. No, it won't. A vigorous, stimulating bath might hydrate your skin, making it temporarily look better - but nothing to do with the oxygen content.

I'm surprised no one has replied to your question. I've tried these many times in Bed Bath & Beyond and department stores. They feel good but don't go high enough on my upper back (neck area) to be really what I need. I've seen some extremely cheap ones by Dr. Scholl on QVC. I cannot imagine they would be any good. If you don't get a reply here, why don't you post over on the Kitchen Table? Someone there might have used one. It's a lot of $ to spend on something you aren't convinced about, isn't it? Maybe it would be best to buy one locally (don't forget the 20 percent coupon at BBB), and then you could return it easily if you didn't like it.

We used to give them back and forth - the non-professional kind - in Parents Without Partners group several years ago.

White grape seed oil or almond oil with a few drops of your favorite essential oil are great. All are available at your local health food store. I use the coupons out of our telephone books to buy mine with a 50% off one item at the store. True essential oil is very concentrated. Not the WallyWorld kind.

You only need a quarter size amount per limb so it goes a long way.

Learned a lot in massage school :)

Massage schools are good places to go definately! My sister just finished a program at the local school.

$15 an hour there, you must fill out health paperwork etc. They are not ALLOWED to accept tips and must complete 300 hours of practical experience for graduation. (Best dang massage school in teh country, run by the lady who writes the books the other places use.)

However you don't review the students the instructors do. But they are doing outcome based massage, NOT relaxation massage.

Only problem with them is you have to make an appointment at least a month in advance or they have no room.

No reason at all for anyone to be embarassed by a massage, to them you are just slab of muscle and connective tissue. If they're well trained then trust me they see you walk in and they're immediately doing gate assesment, seeing how you hold your limbs, back, neck, its all telling them what's wrong and what they need to work on. That's what they're noticing, nothing personal.
