help with saving transparent

I can't remember how to save so a pix comes out with a transparent background.. can any one refresh my ole memory???

Hi There.

Try doing your save as either a .gif, .psp or pspimage, that should keep a transparent background....I usually forget, save as a .jpg & then have this lovely white background....lol...

Thanks but that won't work.. U will still get the white. I know it has to be exported but don't remember the settings..

I think it is probably lack of water or temps. I am leaning towards temps, just because you said they were ventricosa and they are the sherman tanks of nepenthes. The brown spots look to originate from the veins which seems to tell me that the issue is from within and not an external attack. Ventricosa is technically a highland nepenthes. Although it will grow like a weed in most any condition. That tells me that humidity is probably not the issue since I grow mine if lower humidity. The next possibility is tempurature. You are in zone 9, how cold does it get there during the winter? Most neps, with the exception of a very few (2 that I know of khasiana and lamii [i think]) can withstand temps below 45. I had a ventrata burn at the growth points this fall when temps got below 50. It is doing fine now and started to branch and vine as a result, but I was nervous for a few weeks. (I haven't lost a nep yet.) Ventricosa if a very forgiving plant when it comes to water and light, but you should never let a nep dry out. Which judging by your experience, I am guessing is not the issue. That is what keeps leading me to tempurature. If that is the case, I think as long as you give them attention and get back to optimal conditions, they should bounce back. Leaves may die, but as long as new growth appears, then you should be ok. In it's weakened state try not to overwater. If leaves are dying, this is food for fungus now all it needs is a nice drink. If it is lack of water, then you should be fine too. Just make sure not to water log it for the same reasons as just mentioned. A little more light may help during the healing phase if the pitchers weren't already a reddish color before this problem. I have this product on my 15 year old back deck. Part of it is covered. The wood is pressure treated pine. I have to recoat the uncovered every 2-3 years. All I've done is pressure wash it really well, let it dry for 48 hours and then restain. That has worked well until this year and when I did it this year it didn't seem to absorb as well and so I got a bit of a peeling look , like it was just sitting on top and not soaking in. I think it had built up to the point where it wouldn't absorb the stain. I should have used one of the stripping/cleaning products to make the wood more porous. It isn't real bad, but I know that next time I will have to use some stripping product. Underneath the roof it holds up really well. I've only done it twice in 15 years.

Yep definitely pull him out and check the roots because cactus can rot out the whole middle, but still look good on the outside. It’s possible it healed itself. Sounds like it had fungus and or mold. If everything is ok make sure to keep it on the dry side because it looks like the cactus lives inside, and give it good airflow. Moisture doesn’t evaporate as quickly inside. During the warmer months water once a month, if you keep it inside. The cooler months no water till spring.

Is there a drain hole in the pot? Is it a fungus? No Should I cut the affected leaves off? No Is there a cure? There is nothing to be done which will cure the currently affected leaves, but it's a reaction to stress the plant is not genetically programmed to tolerate; so, by eliminating the culturally offensive condition, you can prevent it from occurring in other leaves which are not already similarly compromised. I ....... took it upstairs this winter, as well as my umbrella tree and there was enormous leaf drop (the latter died). ...... and what do you attribute the loss to? Lack of water? Cold? Light level too low? I typically water from the bottom and only about every 7-10 days (I think.) Watering from the bottom is not the best way to water. Your plant would prefer that you water evenly from the top, covering the entire surface of the soil. The entire soil mass should be saturated and at least 15-25% of the volume of water applied should exit the pot via the drain hole. The effluent that collects in the saucer should have no pathway by which it can make its way back into the soil. Salts are flushed from the soil when we water to eliminate them, so if they are able to find their way back into the soil, it's counterproductive. If the plant is easy enough to manage, water over the sink and wait until it stops draining before you return it to the collection saucer. If you're worried watering this way will cause the soil to remain wet/soggy for a prolonged period, limiting root function or worse - wrecking root health, you might consider a better soil of practicing some passive measures that will limit how much excess water a planting can hold. There is no such thing as a healthy plant if the toot system is not healthy - it's a prerequisite. If the pot is too large to handle easily, set the pot on top of blocks in the collection saucer.If the plant hasn't wilted because it was too dry, just by observing symptoms in the images, I'd say you're over-watering and/or there is a high level of dissolved solids (salts) in the soil, but let's see what you have to say before I offer specific suggestions. Hi Dar,

You're right, the .gif still gives you a white background... : ((

Which version of Psp are you working with?....I'm using V8...

I opened a new image, transparent background, put a tube on it, did a "Save As" & then specified that I wanted to save it as a .psp....when I reopened it, it did keep the transparent background...."Save Copy As" will also keep the transparent bg....

If you are creating a tube image, then yes, you export it, File, Export, Picture Tube....maybe this is what you are referring to?

Sorry I'm so long answering..
I am using PSP 9. What I want to do is save so I can put into a chat without the black background.. just transparent. I don't want to make a tube & PSP format won't work.
I know it is EXPORT as gif optimizer but don't know the settings. I have tried several settings but can't seem to get it right.

Dar, it would be easier to remove the present color, then replace the color with the background color of the page you are going to post it on. You can get the exact background color with your eyedropper.

Hi Sugar,
Hope you don't mind me jumping in here. An easy and sure way to save transparent gifs is to first save your single layer transparent Paint Shop Pro image as "animation shop psp". Then open it in Animation shop and save it as a gif.

when you save your GIF, select the SAVE-AS option off the file menu, then click the OPTIONS button, then click RUN OPTIMIZER, then select appropriate transparency(ies).

When transparent image is open in PSP,
Right click it, choose Copy, open animation shop, right click and paste as new image.
Go up to file, Save as, name it, and under the Partial Transparency tab, I have my settings set at:convert pixels less than 40. Check No, use the existing image color at 100%
I test it in OE on a colored background to see there is no white edges. Adjust accordingly when saving.
