Stainless Steel Appliances w/ Oil Rubbed Bronze Accents
Comments (14)I, too, am having this problem. Our cabinets are on order, yeah, antique white with a glaze and medium color hickory cabinets on the island. Have looked at granite and are set on a cream/brown wavy one(can't think of the name). Plan on using cup pulls and knobs with a small detail around the edge. We are having quite a few drawers so lots of pulls. Our appliances are SS have a white not brite white farm house sink and a stainless faucet. I do agree that ORB would look great on the white cabinets. How about the hickory cabinets? What about light fixtures? Plan on having pendants over the island. Our dining room is connected. Tearing down the wall that seperates the 2 rooms-making the kitchen larger. I mention this because should the light fixture match the kitchens light fixtures, in style and in metal finish? The more I ponder this the more confused I get. Can't wait to work on ideas for a backsplash. ;-) Thanks for your help and input, norma...See MoreA white sink with stainless steel appliances?
Comments (16)cyn427 is right ... the furry things are my two Newfoundlands. Funny, I didn't even realize they were going to be in the picture, but this is the second time people have looked at that photo and wondered if maybe I just have oddly tall rugs. Graywings, sorry I can't be of much help on the cabinets. They came with the house. I don't think they are a super high-end brand (the house was mostly used as a summer residence before we bought it) because the joinerwork isn't fantastic, but I have to say they are holding up really well. We think they were probably installed in 1991 when previous owners did a pretty big remodel. They are in need of a new paint job now, but other than that they work pretty well. I've not found any kind of sticker or plate identifying the manufacturer....See MoreHate Stainless Steel but need to order appliances
Comments (33)I personally think of mixing appliances like I think of mixing jewelry. Given the right setting, it could work, but usually... usually... to get a cohesive look, you don't wear a gold necklace, one silver earring, one copper earring and a rainbow bracelet together. You find the things that match and can pull together a whole look. Usually.... usually.... mismatched appliances... to ME.... look like someone is in the middle of a reno, or like me... had to buy a new fridge and DW (stainless), but hasn't gotten around to or hasn't the money to purchase a new microwave or stove. In the big picture, kitchens don't have to be magazine perfect. But usually.... if someone does a reno, there is a plan for everything to flow together. If function is as important as looks, and for many, it is more important, then by all means, get what works or is affordable when you can get it. But most on this forum or most who redo a kitchen, it is based at least partially on getting a new look. And like jewelry or outfits or whatever, one usually... usually... tries to coordinate. And none of the above is a slam. Just an observation. As for "tacky", I do use that word a lot, and I am WAY past high school. I've seen tacky. It does exist. I haven't seen it on this forum, though. But if I do, I probably won't say anything ;)...See MoreSwitch from white to stainless steel appliances in small rental?
Comments (29)Thank you all for your comments. hollybar, I wanted to powder coat the stove because I think a mint green stove would look cute in a 1950s kitchen, and because it's not very expensive. I hope that my current tenants (who have lived there for less than a month) enjoy living in the house and stay for several years. My husband wasn't very excited about mint green, and it sounds like nobody here is either, so I'll probably stick with the more universally appealing white. I hadn't considered burn marks, but the tables were a DIY project meant to last 5-10 years until we get around to changing the window and adding cabinets on that side of the kitchen. The hickory for the butcher block tops only cost $50, and hopefully I can turn them over or plane them between tenants if they are burnt. I agree with you that table height looks wrong next to the window, but it's done now and there is no way my husband could be prevailed upon to change it!...See Moreidrive65
